Red String
Miles apart, cohesively reaching for our burnt cups of coffee, fate tangled at our feet.
Distracted by the nothingness of everyday life— a half-empty gas tank at the forefront of my mind, unaware of the pull of you on me.
Swinging around a lamppost, anticipating the final stop of the bus line, tunnel vision of my to-do list in the mini-mart, destined to be parallel to you throughout every step.
I couldn’t stop it if I wanted to – my hands were tied.
Some call it fate. Some call it dumb luck. Some believe it can be simplified into an undeniable entanglement, connecting ones destined to be, bound by a mere red string. No distance or amount of time can prevent the two from being connected. Two sides of the same coin, two pieces of the same soul, as you go about the glorious days of your life, an invisible red string is ever connecting you to the ones you are meant to meet. It could be a full-force, pedal-to-the-metal, heart-stopping encounter, apparent in an instant that this is fate. It could also be quiet; a break in the stillness, an ever so slight tug in your chest, telling you that the string has led you to this very moment. No matter how far you wander off, the red string will lead you back home.
