Paris Fashion Week Came Back with a Bang
Designers presented their Spring 2022 creations in person this year at the highly anticipated Paris Fashion Week. The return was spectacular as some of the biggest brands in fashion showed creativity through their venues, set design, and of course, clothes. Major fashion brands made references to vintage collections while embracing new trends. Here are a few noteworthy collections:
Chanel
Virginie Viard’s collection for Chanel was overwhelmingly nostalgic. Many looks had references to the 80s and 90s Chanel we all know and love. The runway even paid homage to vintage Chanel by having a petite catwalk runway as opposed to an extravagant set. The collection had classic tweed suits in bright, bubbly colors perfect for spring. However, the most significant recurring theme was skin. The influential fashion house's latest collection featured knitted crop-tops, briefs, unitards, and even bikinis. The accessories and shoes were simple but complimented each look boldly.
Miu Miu
Getting back to the office seems to be on the minds of many, so Miu Miu's collection highlighted workwear fashion while incorporating a provocative twist. Office staples such as khaki, white and blue button-downs, neutral cardigans, and sweaters were featured throughout the collection in a shrunken and ripped-up style. The cropped collared tops and low-waisted pleated miniskirts left midriffs and legs fully exposed. This collection went along with one of the prominent trends of the season: cropped and mini everything. The socks were at calf level, and the shoes certainly nodded to the preppy aesthetic. This collection also showed sneakers from the new Miu Miu x New Balance collab.
Christian Dior
Dior brought beaming colors and vintage fun to Paris Fashion Week with both their set design and collection. The stage took the form of a game board, with various colors, numbers, and phrases throughout. The clothes were 60s inspired, featuring mod dresses, go-go boots, peacoats, and short skirt suits. The show transported the audience to a different time period while still incorporating classic Dior. The collection was whimsical yet polished.
Giambattista Valli
Giambattista Valli’s latest collection was the perfect embodiment of spring. The show took place at the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris to an upbeat soundtrack. The collection was full of romantic ruffles, sheer fabrics, lace, and ribbons. Pink, white, and green floral were in most of the looks giving a dreamy springtime feel. Ribbon and headscarves were used for multiple hairstyles adding to the femininity of the collection. Colored, slim sunglasses also appeared on several models, which gave the looks a chic touch.
Paris Fashion Week was a bold and exciting way to end fashion month. Returning to normalcy in the fashion world is slowly but surely happening, which is something that has been anticipated by fashion lovers. Spring 2022 is sure to be vivid and carefree for style and trends as people get back out into the world to enjoy one another and express themselves.
