Although October is a month filled with fall decor, pumpkin patches, and spooky excitement, it’s also a time for us to focus on spreading awareness regarding a disease that impacts so many people every single day.

According to the American Cancer Society, “breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed among US women and is the second leading cause of death among women after lung cancer.” October marks the beginning of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is a month-long campaign dedicated to increasing awareness surrounding breast cancer, celebrating the survivors, supporting those currently fighting the disease, and raising funds to further research. Pink has become a staple of this campaign, and millions of people rally together to support the cause every year.

There are numerous opportunities for you to support this campaign all month long. A simple way is being a conscious shopper and purchasing items from brands that give back to breast cancer organizations. Whatever you’re in the market for, there’s a brand you can buy from while supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the process. Here are a few examples of brands that use your purchases to help further research and spread awareness!

If you’re looking for a fashionable necklace or a pair of earrings, Kendra Scott is a well-known jewelry brand that is participating in Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The brand launched its “Shop Yellow for Pink” campaign at the beginning of October. It includes a variety of pieces that, when purchased, give back to the fight against breast cancer. The brand has committed to donating $250,000 to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF). On top of that, twenty percent from the purchase of their “Breast Cancer Suite items” and fifty percent from the purchase of their “Breast Cancer Charms” will also be donated to BCRF. Along with these donations, the brand is giving “a piece of rose quartz jewelry, the stone of healing, and a handwritten note to a woman touched by cancer” for every item purchased from their Breast Cancer Suite items. When you buy a piece from this collection, you are giving it to someone else in the process.

Ralph Lauren is another big-name brand using its power to contribute to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In October, when customers purchase the “Unisex Fleece Hoodie,” the brand is donating 100% of the purchase price to the fight against breast cancer. They also have an entire “Pink Pony Collection” that includes many different items for men and women. With any purchase from this collection, the brand will donate 25% of the item’s purchase price to cancer research.

As we approach cooler weather, now is the perfect time to buy a new coat while supporting those affected by breast cancer. The North Face launched their “Pink Ribbon Collection” in honor of the campaign. You can purchase limited-edition jackets and beanies that include a patch of the Breast Cancer Awareness ribbon. Buying one of these pieces is a great way to show your support beyond the month of October. The North Face donates to the organizations Boarding for Breast Cancer and Breast Cancer Prevention Partners. They have been committed to contributing to these organizations each October since the year 2006.

Breast cancer is a disease that impacts not only the patients but also families, friends, doctors, and whole communities. To find a cure, we need to support organizations that are actively assisting in this fight. There are so many brands out there that have special promotions supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month. I encourage you to purchase something from them or even donate directly to the Breast Cancer Foundation! We must work together to find a cure and support those affected by this far too common disease!
