Finding Balance

STRIKE MAGAZINE UF ISSUE V, PHASE 3

Once we look in, we are able to flourish from the inside-out. Phase 3 explores the complex beauty of finding balance within ourselves, others and our world. In this phase, we don’t find perfection. Instead, we embrace our humanness. We value people. We strive to manifest our greatest potential, but we give ourselves grace when we endure organic adversity. This balance is an accumulation of internal and external processing, both of which fuse together to fuel us toward our own utopia, empathize with others and collectively transform the world around us.

“Our phase 3 film defines finding balance by depicting the impossibility of undoing what has already happened, and instead realizing your current state and attempting to find a solution.”

— MEGAN OSORIO MORAN, THOMAS LE, RYAN RIVAS, VIDEOGRAPHERS

By respectfully learning, understanding and contextualizing the struggles of others, we are able to better comprehend the struggles at war within ourselves. In this phase of manifestation, we place ourselves in the context of a large society as a whole, evaluating our place within a fight toward a better tomorrow.

BEHIND-THE-SCENES

“Phase 3 deals with nearing the solution and finding balance. For phases three and four, we are now dealing with manifestation externally. We have taken the time to analyze what parts of our lives, both externally and internally, are affecting us on a personal level. Phase three focuses on how we take the insights from what we learned during the first two phases and find how we can adapt and change those things holding us back and fit them into our current environment. We represented this with a static background and focused on the idea of balance, attempting to identify how we fit these changes and adjustments into our old environment. Each prop used has a specific purpose that relates to a part of our lives that we could be attempting to change or improve. For example, balancing a bunch of hats represents all the different ‘hats’ or personalities a person has. Fruit was used to represent mortality and the temporal aspect of our lives. Watches were to show balancing time and finding where and how you will spend time in the future.”

— ASHLEY NOVELLO, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE DIRECTOR

“Before each shoot, the hair styling team works with Emma, the beauty director, to come up with ideas on how we want the models to look for each shoot. For phase 3, we had the idea of doing a sleek and uniform look for the two female models. We decided to do a bubble-hair style by wrapping elastics around their hair. We thought this was really cute and fit to the theme perfectly.”
