Awakening

STRIKE MAGAZINE UF ISSUE V, PHASE 4

A celebration of freedom, expression and growth, Phase 4 relishes in our ability to not only survive, but to also flourish at the hand of conflict, inner turmoil and external adaptation. Throughout the process of manifestation, we are forced to confront our shadows—shedding false beliefs about our capabilities and reevaluating the truths we’ve projected onto the world around us. Trudging through the trenches of our deepest insecurities, memories and desires, we come out on the other side of this difficulty with a newfound appreciation for our inner potential and hope for the future. No longer are we bystanders of a reality happening to us, but we emerge as the active creators of a reality working for us. In this final phase of manifestation, we experience an Awakening.

“Phase Four is essentially completing the manifestation process. We chose a very ethereal location with cottage-core-vibes to represent a clean slate. You’ve shed all the difficulties and things holding you back in the first two phases, found how you can adapt, change and find balance in the third phase. Then, the fourth phase is like the ultimate goal. We chose to use a mattress to represent almost ‘waking up’ in this new reality you’ve manifested— when really it’s just a new outlook on life or something that has helped you move forward from feeling stuck or held back. We wanted to set up a vibe that was different from the chaos and industrial feel of phase one.”

BEHIND-THE-SCENES

“Phase Four represents the awakening stage of manifestation. For this shoot, we wanted the clothes to be free-flowing; allowing the clothes to represent how the models became awakened and, thus, one with their mind, body, soul, and the surrounding environment. We wanted the shoot to feel dreamy, ethereal and have an element of purity, so the neutral and airy clothing worked perfectly in portraying the awakening and the idea of freedom after this awakening to our audience. Being a stylist for Strike this year provided me a creative outlet, where I didn’t have to worry about studying or making good grades. Instead, it’s allowed me to pour myself into designing the outfits with Cole, the other men’s head stylist, for each shoot. It was an incredible and unique way to harness my love for fashion and convey a story through the outfits we envisioned for this issue.”

— KARIS PERUSEK, MEN'S HEAD STYLIST

“For Phase Four, we went for a youthful and more perfect-looking vibe, which was the opposite of Phase Three. We included some bouncy curls on the models. For one model, we incorporated a half-up/half-down look. For another model, we did a two-braided front look with a scarf on her head. With the style and the beauty team, we were able to make our vision fully come to life.”
