Plaid Parade: A Look Inside Etro’s Latest Runway Collection
The new Etro Fall/Winter 2023 show is about to begin as I sit down with an iced vanilla oat milk latte. A lot to cover and unpack, some good and some…questionable?
The live stream starts, and you can hear the house music start; the lights flicker on and off, and it's honestly giving cult vibes (maybe that’s just me)! I give 10/10 to the production and lighting team, though a very cool atmosphere was created in what looked like a colosseum. Eerie and loud house music in a colosseum is how all my favorite fashion shows start!
Models start coming out one after the other, and we see a lot of plaid, chunky wrap scarves and an array of textiles and patterns, some things Etro is immensely known for. This show was not lacking in that department at all. I'll leave it up to the reader to determine what I meant with that statement. Moving on.
Interesting choices of shoes were seen due to the direction of the actual clothing. Extremely high heels and stilettos were the stars of the show in the shoe department, which is always a good decision. Everything is chunky, and we are here for it. Mary-jane chunky style shoes and loafers were also paired with the patterns galore.
Let's talk about the amount of plaid in this show. It didn't go unnoticed, and I don't know how I feel about it. While I understand it's the season, the influx of chunky plaid scarves didn't do anything for me. To all you chunky plaid scarf lovers, you're welcome to disagree with me in my DM's. I appreciate the earth tones and how comfy and cozy they all looked, that's for sure. One thing about me is that I love being comfortable, but those scarves paired with really long printed skirts were giving 'grandma got a stylist.' I'll leave it at that.
A few favorite looks were in the mix, though, our recent lord and savior trend, Sheer!! There were brown knit sheer dresses, sheer black dresses with ruffles and lace, sheer blouses with polka dots, and this stunning black sheer dress with a heart-shaped neckline that made my jaw drop. The assortment of dresses screamed, "I cast spells to make everyone in the room fall in love with me."
Paisley, polka dots, and ruffled sheer dresses are the big stand-outs for Etro's Fall/Winter 2023 collection. Marco De Vincenzo, the creative director of Etro, has always had a vision for 'fairy-tale fashion,' as he calls it. Etro is bringing back paisley this season, whether we like it or not. It's a pass for me; I'll keep the sheer dresses any day.
Strike out,
