Reflections on the Runway

photographer: Ansley Adcocks

On April 1st, 2023 Strike Magazine Chattanooga launched their fashion show, showcasing the incredible work of local designers based in Chattanooga and Nashville on incredibly talented models! Ever since the first show the community has loved and shown up in support of celebrating art in extraordinary ways in the world of fashion and culture. Last week on March 22nd, Strike had the honor of hosting Strike the Runway 3.0 at The Boneyard Bar & Grill. Luckily, I have gotten to model for the past two shows! I have loved showing up and enjoying the amazing presence of creative like-minded individuals supporting each other along with seeing the eccentric, customized pieces being put on display in the coolest way possible. I will be covering my top five favorite looks/pieces that I think made the runway super striking.

designer: Lillian Dent; model: Maya Grace; photographer: Ansley Adcocks

Starting off with this first design created by Lillian Dent that is absolutely breathtaking to look at. The vibrant popping colors of red, pink, white, and primarily teal and orange tie this look together. Our model’s gorgeous eyeshadow adds a whole other factor to this look as well as the trendy adidas shoes with the striking orange strips. Not to mention the incredible attention to detail on the beautifully layered patterns of the colorful skirt with the crinoline-like material surrounding her adding a whimsical touch.

designer: Caroline Couch; model: Emma Soefker; photographer: Ansley Adcocks

This second look brings the complete opposite to the table. Designed by Caroline Couch it brings a one-of-a-kind, edgy statement to the runway incorporating the use of black and dark colors to her advantage. I absolutely love the elegant pattern of the tube top that adds some more color to this piece than just black; along with the dark arm warmers that match the shorts. But, the importance of accessories plays a main factor into this piece as well. The dark lace bow tie around her neck along with chunky pearls and beads makes the design look complete.

designer: Angel Iris; mode: Kevin AD; photographers: Ansley Adcocks

photographer: Judah Brass

Up next the use of crochet is brought to the runway. The designer Angel Iris used this fun crochet top as their statement piece. The fun colorful square patterns of white, red, and blue really goes well with the undershirt used along with the denim jeans. If you take a closer look you’ll see incredible artwork painted on the left leg of the model that ultimately captivates viewers and ties together this exotic look.

designer: Kandyce Hudson; model: Sophia Nimmo; photographer: Ansley Adcocks

This piece was designed by Kandyce Hudson and it reminds me of the spring season! Kandyce loves to explore the use of colors and incorporates that mindset into this look. The use of pink, purple, and the soft colors of this stunning floral business jacket was used perfectly. The big stylish headpiece really added to the design and adds to the overall theme of blossoming flowers during spring.

model: Sunshine Finnell (Me!): designer: San; photographer: Ansley Adcocks

Last but not least this design was created by the talented San. This design centered around the edgy, emo look with oversized baggy black clothes. San loves involving their hand made accessories and incorporating jewelry pieces into their designs. The funky blue and purple bow tie with the added chains hanging on the sides of it adds an awesome creative aspect. They even made a jewelry piece for my braids!

Strike the Runway 3.0 was an amazing experience that I will never forget along with these brilliant designs.

Strike Out.
