Hollywood Fashion Has a New ‘Cool Girl’, and Her Name Is Alexa Demie

Last summer, HBO blessed us with a teenage drama series known as Euphoria. The audience dove deep, below the surface as they followed the lives of several teenagers who struggled with violence, drugs, and relationships, both internal and external. Euphoria artfully poses the hard-hitting questions, takes its viewers through the trials and tribulations of growing up, and makes the audience admire the characters, despite their wrongdoings. Seriously, though, if you haven’t watched Euphoria yet, pump the brakes for a second and turn on the TV.

Among said admirable characters lies Maddy Perez, who is confident, strong-minded and notably just as fashion-forward as Alexa Demie, the actress who crafted Maddy into the character we know and love.

Demie possesses a unique sense of style, for she remixes seasoned styles from the '90s with more modern looks to cultivate her fashion taste. She recently discussed her personalized aesthetic with InStyle Magazine, emphasizing her originality. "I love timeless. I don't like trendy looks. I sometimes prefer to wear no name designers or vintage stuff over a new trendy designer that everyone's wearing. I think something that's timeless that you can also wear 20 years ago or 20 years later, I'm just drawn to those pieces." Her statement reigns true, for when Demie is spotted on the red carpet, she rarely sports designers such as Louis Vuitton, Versace, Gucci, or Chanel.

The Oscars have consistently served as one of the biggest nights for Hollywood fashion, and the red carpet was once again brought to life this year with showstopping styles. Per usual, Alexa Demie did not disappoint. She turned heads as she stepped out in a black Giambattista Valli ensemble, embroidered from head to toe. Demie sealed the deal by pairing her magnificent gown with her favorite, a french tip manicure, and a slicked-back updo, allowing the dress to stand front and center.

The Golden Globes is yet another highly anticipated evening for fashion, where many of our beloved celebrities either steal the show or miss the mark entirely, and we savor every last moment. Alexa Demie remained true to her individual aesthetic and opted for a silver, sparkly number paired with a matching fringed handbag. She tied this outfit together with an elegant updo, dainty silver earrings, and a powerful '90's inspired makeup look.

This next look, worn by Demie at the 2019 MTV Movie and TV Awards, is hands down one of my absolute favorites. She stepped out in a neutral-toned wrap dress with an ethereal, featherlike train flowing behind her. Minimal accessorizing appears to be the way to go for Demie, for her gold shoes were composed of thin, simple straps, and the earrings she wore complimented the ensemble without being overly distracting. Her appearance resembled that of a glowing goddess as her makeup seemed light and effortless while still incorporating her vintage inspiration so that all eyes remained on the dress.

Alexa Demie redefines the label of 'cool girl' through her impeccable balance of individuality and freshness when it comes to fashion. Her eclectic clothing choices have inspired women to express themselves through their attire and channel their creative energy toward evolving their sense of style. She and Euphoria's Maddy Perez exhibit similarity in their individualized, distinctive fashion choices. Alexa Demie stresses the value of individuality and tells us that it's okay to think far beyond trends "You see? It's like we already all look alike. You know what I mean? Let's reel it in".

Demie has expressed that she has plans that extend past her role as Maddy Perez in Euphoria. She wants to be able to share her inventive style with those who draw inspiration from it, which is why she has been hard at work to develop her own 'fashion empire'. Honestly, we hope you all are just as excited for it as we are (It’s about time we got the opportunity to channel our inner Alexa Demie).

We are all capable of breaking the fashion boundaries and directing our creative energy into self-expression through clothes, just as Demie has done. She is the rising, red-hot cool girl that chooses not to conform to the constraints of fashion, and we are so here for it.

Strike Out,
