Designing Your Future’s Framework

In all your late night, long ride, lonely walk daydreams, where does your mind take you? Perhaps you land in your future couture closet, or in the high-rise office of your dream job. Maybe you’re seated at the mahogany dinner table with your beautiful fantasy family. But have you ever imagined yourself standing in a home perfectly suited to your spirit and style?

A well-designed house reflects the essence of the people within it. Architecture is an art like any other; buildings are creations, extensions of our humanity. Dreaming of your future home is an opportunity to think of who you want to be. Identifying the architectural style can serve as an abstract roadmap there.

Bauhaus

Effortlessly elegant and timeless. You exude an aura of classic sophistication. You could never be labeled as basic — your simplicity transcends anything resembling plainness. You’re calculated and cool, but far from cold. Your minimalistic approach to life means you prioritize and honor the things in life you do value.

The Bauhaus school revolutionized modern architecture by embracing industrialism and balancing it with art. At its foundation, it seeks to build unadorned structures using industrial materials like steel and concrete. The Bauhaus school reveres functionality. It honors the integrity of design through its landmark structures.

Mid-century Modern

You spend Saturdays at the local vintage market collecting pieces to further curate your closet. You could describe your style as understated with unique flourishes. Art and aesthetic are core to your being. But you’re balanced. Your life is one of structure and purpose.

While mid-century modern is rooted in Bauhaus architecture, it is distinct. The oversized windows and exposed wood or stone provide warmth to the homes. These artistic choices were meant to help the structures better reflect their environment, while still retaining the foundational form of functionality.

East-Coast Coastal

Cashmere and Cabernet are your guilty pleasures. When you grow up you want to be Diane Keaton in “Something’s Gotta Give.” You were a coastal grandma before it was cool — Tik Tok is ruining your aesthetic, to be quite frank. Even though you love the finer things in life, you’re far from preppy. You simply seek out what brings you joy and invest in it.

Coastal architecture has myriad forms but the styles across the East Coast exude a certain type of serenity. They are classic and simple. They create warmth and comfort through the use of natural materials.

Conformity is so overrated. Why must we slave away our lives as mere pawns of capitalism? For you, success is not tied to wealth, power or notoriety, but rather to inner peace and satisfaction. You romanticize every aspect of your life. You manifest a future ripe with love and passion.

Cottage architecture dates back centuries ago to the English countryside. Today’s cottages are diverse in style and interpretation. Some core features are gabled roofs, exposed stone, large chimneys and thatched roofs.

Art Deco

Glitzy but never gaudy. You are flashy in the most glamorous way possible. Everything you do is with flair and flamboyance. Your charisma is intoxicating – always cheeky and fun. The life of the party, you’re inexplicably effortless and stylishly chaotic.

The Art Deco movement is most famously monumentalized in the Chrysler Building in New York City. The geometric patterns and odes to Ancient Greek architecture are central to the Art Deco style. The balance of ancient, modern and geometric designs makes Art Deco timeless even with its new age flourishes.

Organic Modernism

You listen to Fleetwood Mac and sip on your honey matcha latte as you tend to your golden pothos. You stay connected to nature as a way to ground yourself. You’re down to Earth and humble. Your aura of calmness is reassuring and comforting to all those around you. Your energy is magnetic.

Organic architecture was first coined by Frank Lloyd Wright as a way to describe a new form of design that sought to represent harmony. Rather than emulate nature, these structures adapt to their environment to coexist.

The future is intrinsically unknown. That thought can scare even the most optimistic of us. With so much out of our control, sometimes the only thing we can do is create our own fantasies and idealize our future lives. So, create prospective blueprints that are constantly adapting to your own internal growth. Indulge in your dreams and hopelessly romanticize the framework of your future.

Strike Out,
