Valentine’s Day Color Scheme of My Dreams

We can all remember a time when we were getting dressed for our elementary school Valentine’s Day party. Everything was pink and red. Our beloved Valentine’s day outfits became a thing of the past up until now. Pink and red can be found everywhere, from stores like Glossier to phone cases from BaubleBar, it has become a new color trend that has infiltrated even the most expensive brands.

Iconic black Chanel bags and flats are being replaced by a brighter alternative. The flats that first came out in the 50’s, where heavily inspired by men’s two-toned shoes. While maintaining the style and story behind the ballerina flat, they added a twist with a more feminine color palette. Usually when we think of brands that are this expensive, playful does not come to mind. And even though these colors might not be as timeless as classic neutrals, it is refreshing to see. People are taking things less seriously and branching out from the norm. Instead of buying what we believe is going to last through the decades style wise, we are buying what inspires us at the moment. We are taking more risk with fashion and the factors that play into it. The forward thinking of the fashion community affects all aspects, even our bag choices.

Pink and red are okay on their own, but better color-blocked. Uniqlo has made it easy for us to achieve the look by making their SS19 collection all about color blocking. The entire collection is composed of super basic pieces like sweatshirts and trousers, all in unique shades, also catering to both men and women. The super-bright version of pink and red can be intimidating for everyday use, but the collection has switched it up by making the tones more muted, making it much more consumer-friendly. The mindset of having everything matching has been completely disrupted. It is much easier for us to try things when they are handed to us in a look book, essentially giving us directions on how to be trendy. But we should inspire us to try things on our own before it becomes popular.

Celebrities

The general public is very influenced by what celebrities are doing. And a few years ago, we couldn’t even imagine wearing two bright warm tones together. When Victoria Beckham was seen wearing this combo from her own autumn winter 2017 collection, it was unexpected and fresh. There has been other fashion faux pas we have avoided, like white in winter and mixing prints. We have all been proven wrong and these have all been high fashion trends at one point. It takes a while for something to become trendy and be seen everywhere. Which is where we are now: pink and red is the new black and white. And like most trends, we all have done them at one point, we look back at photos and question our fashion choices and then with fast fashion it becomes introduced once again. Ten years later everything is recycled, and we buy pieces that are very similar to what we once had. Our youthful selection of Valentine’s day clothing has been transformed into a runway phenomenon, try it.
