Best Hollywood Duos
With Valentine’s day rolling around, it’s time to be reminded that the perfect relationship does exist—but only at the pen of some really great writers. Here’s a list of some perfect on-screen duos that you can watch either with or without someone by your side (honestly, we prefer the “without,” more popcorn for yourself).
1. Pam Halpert (Jenna Fisher) and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski)
Let’s start off strong with arguably the best pair of all time—Pam and Jim Halpert from the tv show The Office. Ingenious and hilarious, The Office features the everyday antics that come from working for a paper company (plus a little extra shenanigans from the office manager, Michael). The show is so great because is consists of realistic relationships and scenarios that will have you hooked from the first couple of episodes. You won’t be able to get through all the seasons in one day, but by the end you’ll be heartbroken to know that Pam and Jim’s actors aren’t married in real life (one thing for you, Emily Blunt: Jenna Fischer could have survived in A Quiet Place, too). If you want to watch this show, it can be streamed on Netflix.
2. Andie Anderson (Kate Hudson) and Ben Berry (Matthew McConaughey)
Alright, alright, alright, let’s talk about Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey. The duo stared in two movies together: Fools Gold and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. In both movies, the pair’s chemistry is off the charts; however, Fools Gold, not a cinematic master piece, yet still good for a guilty Romcom watch, has to move over for the real star: How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. A truly painful example of dramatic irony, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days features Andie Anderson, a columnist, and Ben Berry an advertising executive. Anderson gets an assignment for a column in which she must lose a guy in 10 days, while Berry makes a bet that he can get a woman to fall in love with him in 10 days. Yes, you should already be cringing, yes, it is tragic to watch, yes, it ends how you think it does, but watch it anyways and you won’t be disappointed. You can stream this movie on Amazon Prime video here.
3. Vivian Ward (Julia Roberts) and Edward Lewis (Richard Gere)
Did you really think we would miss the opportunity to talk about Pretty Woman on Valentine’s day? Didn’t think so. Julia Roberts and Richard Gere are known for their pairing in Runaway Bride and Pretty Woman. Both movies are the perfect for your Romcom Valentine’s day binger, but Pretty Woman is our favorite. Though it needs no introduction, the movie is about a contemporary Cinderella, Vivian Ward, who meets Edward Lewis. The unlikely duo become close while Lewis is on a business trip in LA, and the rest is history. The movie teaches us that the perfect relationship can be found in the most unlikely of places (cue Rihanna’s “We Found Love in a Hopeless Place”). You can stream this movie on Amazon Prime video here.
4. Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence) and Pat Solitano (Bradley Cooper)
Both of these actors are so good, they literally have chemistry with any co-star, but their pairing is one of our favorites. Seen together in American Hustle, Joy, and A Silver Linings Playbook, the two are fantastic together in all. For the sake of Valentine’s day, lets focus on A Silver Linings Playbook. Lawerence, who won an Oscar for Best Actress for her performance in this movie (and famously slipped on the way up to receive her award), plays Tiffany, while Cooper plays Pat, both of whom have suffered in their past relationships and are still suffering in the present of the movie, aka a perfect recipe for new love. This flick will have you laughing and crying along with the characters, plus wanting to know more about their stories. If you’re interested, you can watch this movie on Netflix!
5. Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore) and Henry Roth (Adam Sandler)
Last but certainly not least, this duo is truly iconic: Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler. A paring for the ages in The Wedding Singer, Blended, and 50 First Dates, the actors show all the dimensions of love. 50 First Dates is such an interesting idea, its no wonder the movie was such a hit. Barrymore’s character, Lucy, suffers from short term memory loss, while Sandler’s character, Henry, coincidently falls in love with someone who won’t remember his name in the morning. Though a real tear jerker, the movie makes you feel all warm and soft inside as if Sandler was courting you (which some of you may or may not dream of). If you’re interested in this film, you can watch it here, on Amazon Prime video.
Some notable mentions that probably could be on anyone’s list of iconic duos are: Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling (*automatically swoons*) in La La Land and Crazy, Stupid, Love, Chadwick Boseman, as Black Panther, and Letitia Wright, his sister Shuri in Black Panther (whose relationship was surprisingly much more iconic and notable than Black Panther’s actual love interest in the film), and finally Jonah Hill and James Franco (whom have literally no love connection what-so-ever but always seem to make amazing and funny movies). So, whether you’re looking to cry or laugh on Valentine’s day, all of these movies mentioned will be equally entertaining and make you forget what day it is.
Strike Out,
