Trends To Keep an Eye On

Each time period is documented through fashion and each generation gets to tell their story. Creativity is how we thrive as a society and our personal fashion showcases our individuality. However, there are still fashion trends that we all love to take part in. In this article we’ve laid out some of the current trends we hope you’ll love!

<< REWIND IT BACK

Teens and young adults are reviving ‘90s and early 2000s fashion trends. Mom jeans, bedazzled tops, and lace trim tops are just a few items that can help you achieve the perfect aesthetic. Don’t shy away from colorful pieces either! A staple look from the ‘90s and 2000s is the combination of neon colors and animal prints.. Once you pick out your outfit, don't forget to accessorize . Rimless frames, gold hoop earrings, and a baguette bag will complement your outfit perfectly. If you need more outfit inspiration, you can look to all-time favorite sitcoms like That’s so Raven or Lizzie McGuire.

bROWN IS THE NEW BLACK

Recently, the color brown has made a comeback. Brown and nude palettes are everywhere from shoes to clothing and even nail designs . These colors  aren’t as loud as others , which makes them easy to style. The use of neutral colors can range  from casual fits to more elegant looks, though stunning all the same.   Especially with Spring right around the corner, you can choose  between tan cardigans or muted-brown overcoats. No matter your skin tone, the right combination of nude or brown colors can complement any complexion.

BIG NAMES, LITTLE aCCESSORIES

We’ve seen a huge kick in designer brand clothing recently. People are now buying  the cheapest items from the most expensive brands and then build their outfit around that one piece. Items such as headscarves, gloves, sunglasses, and socks have begun expanding the dimensions of modern streetwear. Instead of relying heavily on monotone color palettes, we’re seeing people branch off into more extreme patterns and color choices. Designer brands such as Gucci, Louis Vuitonn, and Chanel sell accessories at a lower price ranges , making these pieces more accessible to the every-day fashion icon.

However, those of us spending thousands of dollars on school don’t have the funds  to do the same with clothing, and that’s totally okay! 2021 has already shown a boost in unique streetwear, so buying one small piece to spice up your closet  is both reasonable and economically sound.

BUBBLEGUM, BUBBLEGUM IN A DISH

It’s all about Bubblegum Pink this Spring 2021 season, as seen by the countless pieces strutting the Miu Miu, Chanel, and Dolce & Gabbana runways. Bright, outgoing, and almost impossible to ignore, Bubblegum Pink has been wrongly mocked as a ‘girly’ color in the past. But,  where femininity and masculinity once existed as barriers, today these terms have become nothing more than open areas for anyone to explore.  Everyone  should feel comfortable splashing out on a bright piece of clothing.

For those of you who remember watching the film Grease at a young age, the term ‘pink lady’ will stick out. Bubblegum Pink is a color reminiscent  of our childhoods, our favorite movies, and a sense of calmness in such a hectic world. Embrace the bubblegum, everyone, because it’s time to stand out.

CAN I TAIL YOU SOMETHING?

I never thought we’d see the day where early 2000s whale tails would be back in style. But, designers such as Givenchy, Versace, and Sandy Liang have proven me wrong. Instead of building a thong into these pants and dresses, strategically placed fabric strips give the appearance of a hiked-up g-string while giving a sense of modesty.

There’s something sexy about the peekaboo effect these cutouts have, but I’ll leave your involvement with this trend up to you. Fashion is made to break boundaries and push buttons, so don’t feel afraid to try this one out.

The game of fashion is cyclical, so we see trends come back into fashion every few years. 2021 is the biggest callback to early 2000s style we’ve seen since this decade itself. Bursting out of the 2020 monochrome zone is the 2021 bold and brash, where we use bright colors to shock and draw the observer’s eye. This is the year to get out of your comfort zone. This is 2021.

Strike Out,
