It’s no secret that TikTok has taken the music industry by storm. When a new song goes viral on TikTok, it becomes a radio hit. Since becoming one of the most popular apps, TikTok has become a successful tool in music advertising. One of the earliest examples of this is “ROXANNE” by Arizona Zervas. The song gained popularity on the app in 2019 through popular dances being choreographed to the song. Shortly after, the song made its way onto the billboard hot 100 at number 34 in mid-November, peaking at number 4 at the end of December.

Over the years, songs have made their way to popularity through TikTok. A recent example of this is “Boyfriend” by Dove Cameron. The song gained popularity on the app when Cameron posted a snippet of the song on her account on January 30th, 2022. The video went viral, and she released the song just under 2 weeks later, on February 11th. Today, the song has over 50 million streams on Spotify alone.

TikTok has also brought older music back up to popularity as well through trends on the app. Recently there’s been a resurgence of popularity with the song “Material Girl” by Madonna. People would use filters on the app to look as though they were older and remember their time as teenagers in the 80’s, using Madonna’s iconic song. This trend became immensely popular, giving the song more popularity and overall streams.

TikTok has made countless other songs popular through its large amount of users and the popularity of its trends. Social media is influencing so many parts of our lives, and it’s only fitting that TikTok is the center of it all, especially with music.
