Taking it Back: Retired Supermodels’ Influence on Fall Beauty
Trends are circulating at an all-time rate, and as the seasons transition, the beauty world is ready for something new and fresh too. Only this time, this craze isn’t anything new; we’re just taking it back a few years.
In the age of media consumption, new trends are either a hit or miss (see: Tomato Girl Fall), but one thing is certain: the looks worn by our beloved ‘90s supermodels will forever be classics. The sophisticated yet youthful and fun looks were brought into the world of beauty by the very women who had the X factor; the word “model” wouldn’t suffice—they were supermodels. The influence of these women on society is far beyond their beauty choices, but their signature looks have stood the test of time and trends.
Arguably the most timeless of all, Cindy Crawford’s chocolate, voluminous blowouts are the epitome of the perfect fall hairstyle. Cindy, known for her approachable edginess, would seldom step out of the house without first taking out a head of rollers. Her sleek locks have proved to be classic and wearable, as her influence can be seen on the next generation it-girl, her daughter, Kaia Gerber. The influence doesn’t fall far from this lineage; Kaia led her generation in the up-and-coming surge of solid, dark tones for fall hair.
Looking back to Kate Moss for inspiration in anything beauty-related is a safe game to play. She perfected the grunge, undone look before anyone else could even compete. To achieve Kate’s signature fall and winter makeup look, smudge some black and grey shadows over your eyelids, accompany that with a hint of rosy blush, and you’re set.
Kate Moss’s legacy is immortalized by her iconic supermodel duo with Naomi Campbell. Her signature frosted, glittery looks are sexy, playful, and perfect for the transitioning season. Naomi’s influence on the beauty industry is evident in the recent release of Merit Beauty’s solo shadow, a line of boldly pigmented eyeshadow. Naomi’s signature look evidently inspires these new products, as she perfected the balance of a simple yet bold shadow combined with bare skin.
Most reluctantly making its way back into our lives is the thin, sculpted brow. For the past decade, the untamed brow has had its spotlight moment — think brow laminations, soap brows, and so forth. All of the aforementioned supermodels were unique in their beauty, but the one trait they all shared was the chiseled, thin brow.
The season is still in its early transition, so more trends may be added to the beauty world. Just in the past few days, a new sleek bob trend has been circulating as shoulder-length, auburn hair has been making its wave around socials as the weather changes. Trends are about being experimental and finding what works for you and what doesn’t. In this change of season, step out of your comfort zone and smudge a hunter green shadow across your eye, chop your hair to your chin, or buy that new burgundy lip liner. I’ll be here cheering you on.
Strike Out,
