Sunnei Blooms with Fall/Winter 2023 Collection

Sunnei hit Milan Fashion Week with another show filled with pieces appealing to almost every eye. The pieces showcased in Sunnei’s Fall/Winter 2023 collection highlight comfortability and wearability in a new and exciting way.

The show kicked off with dim lighting and a runway made up of blocks of white light. As the models walked across it, the light source came from under them, creating a different effect not typically seen on fashion week runways. This put the focus solely on the models and what they were wearing, popping the brighter colors and emphasizing the darker colors.

The show started with a focus on the darker side, shades rather than colors. The pieces were black or white and mostly with fur. One of the first things I noticed was that almost all the models wore sunglasses with bulky and eccentric arms. As the show went on, Sunnei introduced pieces that included more color, first with some yellows showing up on shirts or bags or even sunglass lenses, eventually, moving into some oranges shown in headpieces and bags. Then, throwing some color onto their boots.

About halfway through the show, any denim lovers in Sunnei’s crowd were likely feeling defeated and disappointed. But worry not. Out onto the runway comes an outfit with a coat and pants, just like the beginning of the show, except for one thing. The coat and pants are made entirely of patched denim. It’s denim, but it’s new and innovative.

Sunnei continued to wow the crowd, surprising us with more and more pop, compliments, and contrast to the black and white tones shown earlier in the show. They showed out with a few blue and white striped pieces, similar to a look seen in their Spring/Summer 2023 collection, showing us that they’ve got something for everyone.

Each runway walk ended with the model stopping, turning around, raising their arms, and falling backward off the runway and onto the outstretched hands of a crowd below, only to be crowd-surfed to the back of the pack. Just before the show, the brand explains, “Inspiration comes from our daily life and the people we share every day with.” Each model falling into the hands of the crowd below them shows the viewers this sense of community and togetherness that Sunnei is founded on.

Long coats, pants, fur, denim, sunglasses. Just exactly what we needed in 2023’s Fall/Winter collection, Sunnei is telling us to be stylish but comfortable and practical. The venue was simple, but the clothes were exciting, and they did the talking.

Sunnei says, “The result is a SUNNEI 2.0, where everything before is used as the basis to develop something new, every feature blooming with an explosion of colors, textures, prints, and materials.” And that’s exactly what it was. One big bloom from start to finish. I couldn’t have said it better myself, Sunnei.
