Styling Lingerie Outside of the Bedroom

When we think of fashion, we think of the ability to express ourselves comfortably. We don’t let trends confine us or scare us. Instead, we embrace them and take them as a sign to explore because at the end of the day, it’s not about the sexual appeal- it’s about having control over who you are. In recent years, the fashion industry has presented new undaunting ways of body consciousness, from layering coats on top of jackets to silk slips, dainty bras, lace bodysuits, and corsets. There is a drastic shift in the fashion Paradigm that’s finally allowing lingerie to be an accepted elegant, fierce, and liberating form of clothing outside the bedroom. If you know how to style it, adapting to this daring trend isn’t unrefined. It’s powerful in the sense that your freedom of feeling empowered in your own body with less clothing is accepted.

It’s best to find a high-quality, luxurious lingerie brand with grade-A material and design that will stay put and still leave enough to the imagination. I can guarantee you, the expensive stuff will be the most comfortable. When experimenting with wearing lingerie out, a lace bodysuit will ease you into more of the daintier items. Bodysuits will never fail you because they’ve been in style for years due to their versatility and flattering fit. The classic trusty pair of high-waisted boyfriend jeans or leather pants (depending on the texture of your bodysuit) will complete your flirty vibe. Now that your journey has begun, you can visualize the vibe you’re comfortable with, the shape that fits your body, and the accessories that can be added. Finally, you’re ready to move on to the fun part- let’s dive into the world of lace bralettes, sheer tops, slip dresses, and corsets. Lace bralettes are the epitome of what lingerie represents. You can never go wrong with a bralette featuring intricate lace designs- some colorful, some embellished, and some solid color- and a blazer or sheer blouse to go over it- key-word, blouse, or blazer. The sheer top, the blazer, and the pants should be a solid color to allow the bralette and a sliver of midriff to be the moment while also keeping it tasteful.

Similar to the lace bralette, the overbust corsets are a fun way to play around with extenuating the beautiful curvature of your body. What was only accepted to be worn as undergarments that give you a slimming figure gives the corset so much more power now that you can wear it out as a top with pants. If your corset is long enough, always remember to tuck the corset in your pants. As for slip dresses, they are the dreamiest, daintiest, and lightest pieces that look just as good as how comfortable they are. Treat it as a minidress, where you can wear flats, sneakers, or heels. You can even pair it with a bomber jacket or a thin button-down that can still reveal the slip dress. Take these styling tips as a way to introduce you to a new light of identity, freedom, comfortability, and sensuality. There’s no better way to wear intimate pieces than wearing them with the power that you took back from the pregender fluidity and pre #MeToo world.

We’re not talking about toxic body objectification and body politicization that the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show deems "fashion". The acceptance of wearing lingerie openly as a form of expression shows how designers are no longer making designs that go along with gender roles and body types. It is now propelled by the freedom to empower whatever body you have.
