Prospection

STRIKE MAGAZINE UF ISSUE 06, DESTINATION 1

It’s not every day we feel lightning strike – coalescing as a straining, yet invigorating chase for an inspired reality: Destination. Shoot one takes place before these pursuits bear fruit, where we find ourselves staring at a horizon of opportunity from within a workplace of drudgery and monotony. Here, we begin the gambit by giving in to an inner-anticipation — an intangible prospection — by destroying this cage of self-imposed limitation. With this self-liberation, we free ourselves from confinement, engage in necessary conversations, and recognize we were once only chained by our hesitation to enjoy the view.

“During shoot one, we really wanted to incorporate what it means to be in your office, busy and stressed and not have the model know he’s actually in this beautiful piece of nature. We wanted to find a way to hide this fact until the very end of the film. This included a lot of direction on how he should be acting. I had such an amazing time shooting this film with my amazing film team, and we hope you enjoy the film as much as we do.”

— MEGAN OSORIO, FILM DIRECTOR

BEHIND-THE-SCENES

“When Annie, Maddie and I were first talking about the theme it really resonated with me because I wanted to capture those fleeting moments of going to a destination. It’s these soft, tangible moments that are hard to remember and encapsulate, but they just feel so real and familiar to everyone.”

— ERIN HU, CREATIVE DIRECTOR

“In each shoot, there’s a little easter egg of a clock somewhere. It’s a different one every time, but that’s more to represent that, no matter what, we’re all in this destination of life and at the end of the day, the only constant thing is that time is going to keep going on. That’s the only real thing we can’t control, the only constant besides change”

— ASHLEY NOVELLO, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE DIRECTOR

“Social norms attempt to fool us into thinking we’re completely at the world’s mercy; prospection represents the wonderfully freeing rejection of that narrative. Editorially, we tried to convey the progressive frustration of being boxed in, culminating as an explosive decision to liberate ourselves and finally ask: ‘Why settle for the standard?’”

— AJ BAFER, EDITORIAL TEAM BLOG DIRECTOR

“Beauty concepts start with keywords, for example, renaissance/depletion or agony/glamour. Brainstorming with my team begins with throwing ideas and inspo photos in google docs or slides. Each of my assistants has their own creative take on the concept, and we move forward from there. Our main idea is tweaked once the model is confirmed and styling has been completed. Sometimes this can take the look we originally imagined in a complete 360. Specifically for shoot one, the emphasis for styling and beauty was on earthy tones, so we took a more natural look and used clay-colored tones to enhance the model’s features.”

— EMMA HESSE, BEAUTY DIRECTOR
