NYFW Beauty Trends

Another season of New York Fashion Week has come to a close. As we reflect on one of the most glamorous and exciting weeks of the year, I’d like to take a minute to reflect on an aspect of the shows that often gets overlooked: the beauty.

Historically, unique beauty aspects seen on the runway were always present in London and Milan Fashion Week, not New York Fashion Week. But as the runway seasons have gone by, NYFW has transitioned from models with a nude lip and beach waves to models rocking super pigmented neon eyeshadow and bejeweled hair.

These beauty looks go hand in hand with the garments as well. The clothes seen on the runway for Fall 2019 NYFW set the tone for the season. They convey what the trends are going to be and inspire the style choices of a multitude of people. The beauty mimics the effect that clothing does in this situation. The beauty you see on the runway will inspire countless makeup and hairstyles you will see in the near future. If you’re looking for some inspiration to shake up your makeup or hair routine this season, I’ve compiled of the beauty and hairstyles that really stood out on the runway.

Long Hair...and I mean LONG hair

2018 was the year of short hair. People everywhere like Khloe Kardashian and Lucy Hale have cut off their long locks to keep up with the hair trend, I’ll even admit I went through the dramatic transition from long hair to a short-do. But NYFW made it very clear that the short hair trend is over and 2019 is the year for long hair. I’m not talking long, mid-back length hair. I’m talking borderline Rapunzel hair. This trend was especially present in the R13 Denim show where models like Kaia Gerber was seen strutting down the runway with long hair.

Crystal drip was a major trend we saw in countless shows this season. Normally crystals and jewels are not a main focal point, but I can confidently say that this season they everywhere. Christian Siriano complimented his rhinestone heavy collection with the perfect makeup and hair look. Models had jewels glued on their face in a way that it “mimicked freckles” along with clip in chains weaved in braids pulled together in a low ponytail. In the Adeam show, we even saw the jewel trend go as far as having pearl accented nails. According to the nail artist, it took roughly 12 hours to create all of the press on nails needed for the show.

Bold Eyes

The eyes that hit the runway this NYFW were seriously popping. Everything from vibrant purple cut crease in the Anna Sui show to the pastel Jackson Pollock eyes seen in the Collina Strada show. Makeup artists in the Rosie Assoulin show even went to the extreme of using colored and glitter tape as eyeliner on the models.

The “No Makeup Makeup Look”

Although many shows were very out there with their makeup looks, some designers did opt for a more minimalistic makeup look. The main point of this look is to make the models look fresh faced, which meant a lot of hydrating face products went into the making of these looks. Designer Nguyen Cong Tri went with this natural look but paired it with a more intricate hairstyle which consisted of looped buns to give the look more of an edge.
