Måneskin: Rock Icons And Fashion Gods

Following their win at the 2021 Eurovision Song Contest and their cover of “Beggin’” blow-up on TikTok, the Italian rock band Måneskin has been making a name for themselves. Formed in Rome in 2016, the band continues to accumulate fans worldwide. Aside from their fiery songs that you can’t get out of your head, Måneskin is also exploding in the fashion world. As sensational as they sound, they are even more enthralling to look at.

Måneskin is made up of their lead vocalist (Damiano David), bassist (Victoria De Angelis), guitarist (Thomas Raggi), and drummer (Ethan Torchio). Besides their undeniable talent in each musical genre, their out-of-the-box fashion choices stir up an even louder conversation. Each member puts their all into their outfits with punk statement pieces, endless leather, and heavy eye makeup. They make it a point to match their appearance with the vibes of their music, and they look amazing doing it. Look up “rockstar girlfriend aesthetic” on Pinterest, and this is what they continue to pull off -but better.

What makes Måneskin unique in their “rockstar” fashion aesthetic is their play with masculine and feminine pieces. In their eyes, more feminine clothing is not reserved for just women. They have managed to blur the lines between what is “acceptable” for men to wear in a way that challenges the barriers we have placed on clothing. When a man looks that good in a dress, no one can really tell him to take it off. Even if someone did, Måneskin wouldn’t give a f*ck. Their unapologetic, genderless approach to fashion has paved the way for a more inclusive society. As a result, other people are able to feel more comfortable doing so as well.

As the lead vocalist, Damiano David is always at the forefront. He makes sure to have his outfits tear up any room he walks in. During performances, his outfits range from masculine to feminine or nothing at all. David never fails to show some skin. After all, if you got it, flaunt it. A lot of times, he starts a performance fully clothed and progressively sheds layers. If you’re into searching for deeper meaning like I am, you know this is riddled with meaning. We are so critical of how someone dresses, but it all gets taken off in the end. Besides the fact that he looks crazy good in women’s clothing, they are just clothes. Let people wear what they want. It’s really not that serious.

In lieu of their new album release, Måneskin showed up in the loudest way they could. On January 19th, they got married (yes, to each other). Although it was confirmed this wasn’t a legal marriage, they still managed to turn heads from all directions. The four band members arrived in all white for their “big day.” Victoria De Angelis appeared in an asymmetrical draped top, Sonora cowboy boots, and a floor-length lace veil and gloves. Damiano David wore a classic Umit Benan tuxedo. Thomas Raggi was seen in an extra-long coat with a wide-brimmed hat. Last but not least, Ethan Torchio came in a full floor-length skirt with a mesh veil and gloves. To top it off, Måneskin had wedding band rings made by Marco De Luca- Gioielli. The band kept up their pattern of putting their all into their fashion. No half-assers here!

Måneskin’s stylist, Nicolo Cerioni, is behind many of their sick looks. He is regarded as one of the best stylists in Italy, and it shows. Cerioni spoke to Women’s Wear Daily about what it means to be a celebrity stylist. He shares, “Today, the visual part is no longer separated from the musical one, a complete and contemporary artist in my opinion has both things. Aesthetics must reflect the music, there is no separation.” He has done a fantastic job of living up to this value, as Måneskin definitely looks the part. Måneskin has also partnered with Gucci, appearing in the Gucci Aria Campaign of FW21. This collection featured bold yet elegant accessories, a play with textures like feathers and sequins, and heavy eye makeup. At many events, the band can also be seen in head-to-toe Gucci. More recently, Måneskin wore custom Gucci pieces to the 2023 Grammy Awards. Their looks consisted of golds and browns as well as sequins and velvet. The band strived for a more elegant and gilded look to match the luxurious nature of the GRAMMYs.

Besides their really catchy music, Måneskin continues to apply themselves in the fashion world and gain fans through both industries. Some admire their music, some admire their clothes, and some admire both. No matter how you feel about them, there’s no denying that Måneskin is an icon in the rock genre. It’s hard not to become an icon when they look that cool. Nevertheless, men in dresses (and Victoria) are stealing your girl.
