Making High Fashion Accessible

High fashion. It is described as the expensive, luxurious, and typically very unique designs pulled straight from the runway. These designs tend to be difficult to come across and buy due to their rarity and surging price tags. Although if you find yourself wanting to take part in such high-quality fashion trends, there are four ways to make high fashion accessible: influencers, accessories, newsletters, and uncensored self-expression.

Influencers

While this may seem obvious, influencers and celebrities in general have been making high fashion trends understandable to the public for years. It can be intimidating to wear something that no one else deemed “fashionable” yet. It is the job of celebrities to take these risks and face the waves of the public's opinions. By choosing an influencer or celebrity whose style you can relate to, they become a trustworthy source as to what trends will be perceived as in style

Kim Kardashian:

Although Kim Kardashian’s fashion sense has been questioned by other celebrities countless times, everyone has to admit she certainly has taken some risks in the past. One of the very popular trends that she seemed to have pioneered was wearing latex clothing. A recent example of this was at her Skims event in the city of Miami last March. She sported tight, gray latex pants, with a matching bra, paired with Yeezy accessories. The popularity of latex skyrocketed to the point where it showed up in designs across the 2022 fashion week. In Milan, Versace experimented with layering in latex, including latex leggings that look quite similar to Kim Kardashian's look.

Rihanna :
Rihanna is an influencer from makeup to music to fashion –she can do it all! Not only does she influence the masses, but even other celebrities. Back in 2014, she wore the Swarovski naked dress to the CFDA Fashion awards, which sparked awe and controversy among the viewers. From then on many different celebrities have emulated this look for their red-carpet couture. More recently though, Rihanna has been trailblazing as a maternity fashion influencer to her fans. While the pregnancy announcement may have come as a shock, knowing the boldness of this A-list celebrity the perseverance of her unique style was not. One of her most memorable pregnancy looks that inspired recreations across several social media platforms was her transparent Dior cocktail dress she wore to the fall of 2022 Dior event. Although styling a maternity bump may not be a topic for everyone, she has proven once again that she is the go-to influencer when it comes to creating fashion trends and pushing the limits of what is expected.

Accessories

If recreating the full looks from high-fashion is too much, try adding some high fashion accessories to your looks! This is a tried and true way to elevate any outfit, and the most popular accessories this year are very accessible. One of my favorites I’ve seen circulating is platform heels. Not only does the platform add some impressive height, it actually makes it a little easier to walk in. A more classic accessory is pearl jewelry. Pearls have been coming back in a big way, and one of the more popular ways to wear them is in a choker necklace. Lastly, a popular accessory this season has been to add a pop of color with statement gloves. This trend is not only perfect for winter comfort but is expanding what we recognize as accessories.

Newsletters

Newsletters are a great resource to keep updated on fashion trends, and who is wearing them. What is a fashion newsletter you ask? Well, they are a mix of news in the industry, new and popular trends, and content for different high fashion brands. If you struggle with keeping up to date or are simply in search of some inspiration, newsletters are where to look! Some of the most popular rated newsletters of 2022 are Business of Fashion, Who What Wear, GQ Magazine, Fashionista, and Refinery29

What is really important?

The most important thing to remember when tackling the high fashion industry is to stay true to your sense of style. Fashion is extremely subjective and ever-changing. Don’t be afraid to take risks to find your true aesthetic, and always be creative!
