Walk of Shame-Lessness? Glenn Martens Doesn’t Care if You Haven’t Slept Yet
This morning, Diesel showed their new Fall/Winter 2023 collection; let's just say it was orgasmic. As audio erotica sounded from my computer speakers, models appeared in looks that looked like they just came to the show from a night out at Club Space; distressed, draped, and a little wet, but still sexy and effortless. To quote my notes: "sexy, erotic oil spill."
Shiny yet not reflective material was used on many bomber jackets, skirts, and tops. The material could be compared to magazine ads or glossy printed flyers. A favorite of mine was the 'Diesel smile.' A print of people's smiles with colorful lipstick plastered across various men's and women's looks. On top of the smiles was, of course, the iconic red "Diesel" logo.
If you don't want to go completely distressed, Creative Director, Glenn Martens, has invited the 'sheer' look to stay another season. Sheer cut-outs in denim pants, skirts, and dresses were seen for both men and women. However, this sheer material is glossy, elevated from the looks shown last season, that was often intentionally cut and shaped rather than draped and contorted.
Today was a win for tall girls as we saw dramatically long, tight (but not skinny) jeans hit the runway. Jeans so long we don't know what shoes you're wearing (or if you're even wearing shoes); proving to be a staple everyone needs in their closet this season. However, If you choose to show off your shoes this Fall and Winter, consider selecting the slip-on diamante heels that traipsed and trotted around the giant pile of Diesel x Durex condoms on the runway.
For men, Martens doesn't want to see your head…. or your knees. It's hooded everything this season. Consider pairing your hooded top with sunglasses for that optimal 'morning after' look Martens wants to see us all in. As for knees, models were seen wearing loose, graphic printed shorts over pants of a looser material as well. My favorite look of this new effortless 'just dug this up out of the trash and put it' on style is, of course, American Model, Alton Mason's closing look: a long baggy pair of jeans with loose blue on top, a long, dramatic jacket and a hoodie (with the hood up, duh). You could say layering is staying for another season with this look.
This Fall, Martens has gifted us with the most sparkly pair of… Boots? Tights? Tight-boots? It doesn't matter what they are, but this tight-boot hybrid will surely be seen all over your Instagram explore page soon enough. They come in silver and hot pink, styled under skirts and dresses, even if the colors clash. No need to ask yourself how much you'll wear them; don't think, just buy them.
Sex positivity, draped fabric, raw cuts, glossy materials, and wet looks. This season, Glenn Martens is making sex casual again and de-stigmatizing the walk of shame. So, don't worry about the greasy hair, torn clothes, or messed up make-up anymore cause it's totally in now.
