Lizzo: Body Positivity Queen

In recent years, the media has been pushing heavily on the idea that “all bodies are beautiful” regardless of size, shape, or color. Yet the same types of bodies are shown in modeling ads, movies, Instagram photos, and all throughout the media. Despite this call for representation, it doesn’t seem like a diversity of beautiful bodies are being represented. However, Lizzo has recently stepped into the spotlight to teach us all what beauty really means. Lizzo is a talented singer as well as an activist for body positivity. She is a role model we could all learn from.

On December 15th, Lizzo posted a picture of herself leaning against a ledge outside and captioned the photo “I detoxed my body and I’m still fat. I love my body and I’m still fat. I’m beautiful and I’m still fat. These things are not mutually exclusive. To the people who look to me, please do not starve yourselves. I did not starve myself. I fed myself greens and water and fruit and protein and sunlight. You don’t have to do that to be beautiful or healthy. That was my way. You can do life your way. Remember, despite anything anyone says or does DO WHAT YOU WANT WITH YOUR BODY.”

Lizzo is the reminder we all need that there is beauty in every size, shape, and color. She is honest about her own struggles with her body in hopes that she can connect with and inspire fans to love their own bodies and feel comfortable in their own skin.

On top of being a body positivity activist, Lizzo constantly shares her iconic fashion looks and beautiful makeup looks on her social media pages, especially Instagram. She posted pictures in two different outfits, with two different makeup looks that she wore to this year’s Grammys on March 14th. Her first makeup look was glamorous, as it perfectly complemented the natural tones of her skin. Her second makeup look had more pink tones, giving her the appearance of a fairy tale princess. This makeup look also matched her pale, pink gown, which made for an iconic look all around. She posted pictures showcasing this look while standing beside Harry Styles after he had just won a Grammy. Through her iconic fashion looks and beautiful makeup, Lizzo reminds us that confidence and self-love are essential to radiate true beauty.

Lizzo also reminds us that every body is a bikini body with pictures from a bikini photoshoot she posted back in March. In these photos, Lizzo poses by a pool wearing a black string bikini with silver embellishments and an extremely natural makeup look. She also posted a video of herself adjusting her hair and bikini in front of the camera, with a caption “I felt like everyone deserved to see how fine I looked yesterday.”

Lizzo’s confidence reminds all of her fans that they are beautiful regardless of a number on a scale or the color of their skin. She continues to impress and inspire fans to feel confident and develop self love for their own bodies; she ultimately advocates for people to love their bodies no matter what. Lizzo has represented a wide variety of groups within the media that have not previously been represented, and has shown the world what inner beauty and confidence truly looks like.
