Life In Plastic: It’s “Fantastic”

Before being sold the dollhouse dream
She was a young girl born into a world of opportunity
Prior to being introduced to the life of plastic
She wanted her life to be her creation
To live her dreams and have endless imagination
When she first played with a Barbie
She viewed it as an innocent game
Through Barbie she learned she can be a star and the life of the party
As long as she followed life’s rules
She can have the dream life of lying on a beach in Malibu
As she aged, outgrowing Barbie
She tested positive for thick thighs and keen eyes
Able to withstand the public’s image
She passed puberty
Until her teenage years, running back to Barbie
Crying off her Maybelline New York Mascara,
She confided in Barbie about her appearance
Barbie told her she should not be ashamed
As she has a great heart and is highly intelligent, BUT
Emphasized the importance of a healthy diet, exercise and not being too fierce
Listening to Barbie’s advice, undergoing a slight nip tuck to mask her imperfections
She showcased her new lips and liposuction
Zipped in size 0 skinny jeans and consumed with immense amounts of makeup
She became everyone’s dream, both men and young girls
While slowly becoming her worst nightmare
With fame came intimate shame
To find her Ken, she was told to dim her light
She was taught by Barbie that men don’t want a woman with too much fight
So, she played dumb while in the chef’s kitchen, catering to her husband’s need
While shielding her sadness with a staged smile
Now 25 and shelved as the century’s “It” girl
She was featured in Vogue magazine
Embodying feminism and women empowerment
Poised in pink while boxed in society’s dollhouse
Selling a perfect lie
