It’s Schiaparelli’s Universe and We’re Just Living in it
Coming in hot with another collection of realist designs, Schiaparelli takes pieces of ready-to-wear clothing and turns them into extraordinary artistry. The Fall Winter 21 show begins with a large, golden ear “ringing” as a cell phone- an immediate ode Elsa Schiaparelli’s belief that anatomy was not just a point of inspiration, but a playground. As his fourth ready-to-wear season, Daniel Roseberry, the predecessor of Elsa Schiaparelli, continues to carry on her legacy of creating looks that are unique to any other designer.
Rosenberry states the collection is both a “conversation about surrealism, fantasy, and imagination, and concept; and also a collection that is engaging with ideas about reality and commerce.” The collection features an array of denim accentuated with gold charms in the shapes of body parts, evening dresses and wool sweaters with quilted gold breasts, painted blouses, leather garments, and headwear made from gold. As each design may make you feel as though you have stepped into an alternate universe, thankfully, Schiaparelli is earth-bound.
The wonderfully unique designs with emphasis on gorgeous embellishments are what makes Schiaparelli stand out from the rest. Rosenberry takes iconic wardrobe pieces and integrates the recognizable take on branding within each accessory; perfectly combining ready-to-wear and fantasy. Each look captures the essence of the human body in a way that is elegant yet still eccentric and true to the essence of Schiaparelli itself.
Schiaparelli is all about being bold and taking risks in the world of fashion, and this collection is certainly no exception.
