Is Kylie the Better Model?

The Kar-Jenner family has grabbed the fashion and pop-culture world by the throat and has no intentions of letting up. From their reality TV show to their skincare lines and clothing brands, the royal family of America has created a constant stream for consumers in today’s money-powered capitalist market. While many members of the family have modeled, only one remains a true “supermodel” – Kendall Jenner.

Kendall has remained at the forefront of fashion and runways since she began her modeling career at age 14. She's been endorsed by many high-end brands, and most would recognize her from her multiple Calvin Klein campaigns. Despite her high-profile appearances, many criticize Kendall’s runway talent, and the phrase, “Give us nothing!” has circulated her runway shows for quite some time now. Many attribute her success to her family and claim she never would have become so famous if her last name wasn’t Jenner.

Kendall’s looks tend to hang closely to a conservative side, and some may call them boring. When you compare her looks to those of modern fashion and editorial projects, her critics have a point. What is different about her? What separates her from the rest of the fashion community? Fashion today is all about uniqueness and unapologetic content, which Kendall struggles to deliver.

On the other hand, her sister, Kylie Jenner, serves it up hot and fresh. Kylie doesn’t walk in runway shows like Kendall; however, she is still able to collaborate with high-end fashion houses and model front-page editorial shoots. Some of the most recent looks she has debuted include Schiaparelli, Prada, and even Jean Paul Gaultier. Kylie has become a muse for these houses and designers, probably because she knows how to serve unique faces.

However, Kylie’s most memorable looks come from her bold editorial photoshoots. One of her most recent campaigns with Acne Studios broke the internet. Featured in distressed denim and leather, Kylie donned a dirt-covered, wet, and greasy look. Video promotions posted to social media showed Kylie and her “twin” (not Kendall, but literally two Kylies) showing off the brand’s designs. Kylie and Acne Studios posted exclusive and extensive content, including behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot, giving fans plenty to absorb. Critics on Acne Studios Instagram page commented that Kylie “isn’t fashion.” One user even wrote, “I miss the old Acne.” The thing is, fashion is moving forward, and celebrities like Kylie have been on the come up in the fashion world for quite some time now.

Kylie has already had several concrete moments in pop culture and the fashion world between her magazine covers and red-carpet outings. Who can forget the iconic PAPER magazine cover, where Kylie is featured and made up like a doll, complete with a plastic pink wig and oversized pink lips?  Another iconic cover of Kylie was for Interview magazine, where she is pictured looking stiff and plastic strapped to a wheelchair. I will also not let anyone forget her Dutch braided blue hair, Coachella-going era where she was on every girl's Instagram feed and Pinterest page. Kylie has had a hold over the pop culture world and certainly has the power to influence individuals and get everybody’s attention on her. Her lion-head Schiaparelli dress and iconic purple Versace crystal dress she wore to the Met Gala got everybody talking. Her Off-White wedding gown and baseball cap was a moment in fashion history no one can forget. Kylie knows how to work the fashion world, whether you like it or not. Needless to say, Kendall might need to watch her throne. King Kylie is stepping up to bat.
