Is Doja Cat the New Gaga?

If you know anything about Doja Cat, you’ll remember how she kick started her fandom. Back in 2018, Doja Cat posted a home video of her singing a song about her being a cow (despite people assuming she would identify with cats). The song, titled “Mooo!” quickly went viral.

Since then, Doja Cat has quickly risen to fame and dominated the top charts as a female pop star. Doja’s music isn’t the only thing that’s magnetic, however. She doesn’t seem to give a sh*t what anyone thinks about her music, style, or personality. She does what she wants. Recently, Doja Cat has shaved off her hair as well as her eyebrows, making it a staple to dramatically change the shape and style of her brows with makeup and constantly update her fans.  While some may cringe at the hairless look she’s been sporting lately, Doja embraces her new look with open arms. Taking a quick scroll through her social media, you’ll find a seemingly endless dump of selfies, photoshoots, and hilarious posts. She seems to treat her Instagram (25.6 million followers) and TikTok (26.1 million followers) as personal diaries, opening a window into her life for her fans.

Doja Cat’s style is one of the things she’s most known for, aside from her music. One of her most recent looks sparked quite the conversation, with people comparing her looks to “capital fashion” straight from “The Hunger Games” series. Doja Cat appeared on the red carpet for the Schiaparelli show earlier this year, covered in 30,000 crystals from head to toe. The ensemble was striking, to say the least. Her new hairless look allowed crystals to be placed across her entire skull and face. You really couldn’t see any skin. She also recently sported a completely latex look at the Grammy’s this year, wearing a black latex gown and gloves.

Many celebrities out there are not willing to step into the quirky spotlight, but Doja Cat shows no fear in the face of criticism. What other popstar can dress and act however she wants and still be in the spotlight? None other than Lady Gaga herself. Now before the Gaga stans come after me, in no way does comparing Doja Cat to Lady Gaga threaten Gaga’s legacy. However, I must beg the question: is Doja Cat the new Gaga?

Lady Gaga also rose to fame quite early on in her life and continues to be a style icon to this day. I mean, who doesn’t know about the iconic meat dress?! How about that one time Gaga arrived on the red carpet inside an egg? Or her jaw-dropping “Paparazzi” performance back in 2009 at the VMA’s where everyone thought she was actually bleeding out? There’s no denying Lady Gaga’s iconic status and incredible talent; the same goes for Miss Doja Cat.

The two have also been known to address any rumors about them blatantly and humorously. One of the most memorable was Lady Gaga refusing to deny any rumors about her having a penis. In an interview with Anderson Cooper, she said, “Why would I waste my time putting out a press release that I don’t have a penis? My fans don’t care, and neither do I.” Doja Cat has also recently got herself caught up in a rumor that she works with the Illuminati. She responded by posting a funny TikTok video where she jokingly made Illuminati references.

Lady Gaga went on to create a legacy for herself—just like the one Doja Cat is paving now. A key to becoming an icon is not caring what others say about you. We could take a good look at these two pop stars and learn a few lessons from them. Being quirky isn’t a bad thing; it’s iconic.
