How to Wear Winter & Spring Trends
We have a few fashion trends we need to chat about. With the fashion world moving so fast, it’s hard to keep up with all the new fads rolling out for winter and spring—so here are a few of my favorites that can easily be pulled off.
French Feminine
This spring trend is perfect for happy hour or all hours for that matter. Consisting of OTT sleeves, ruffles, crisp whites and pastels, bows, and classic shapes, French Feminine is an ultra girly way to show up to brunch looking like you have your life together. Let’s go over some must-haves if you’re looking to nail this trend. First, you’re going to need some sort of outrageous blouses, like the one pictured above (channel your inner Jack Sparrow). To balance out tops, pair with some basic pants that show off your figure, ensuring that your pirate-sleeve blouse doesn’t swallow you whole. Finally, keep your looks light and airy—crisp white is always a good idea here, to spice things up or you could throw in a light pop of color and still be on-trend. The Australian boutique Verge Girl has perfectly nailed this new aesthetic and won’t hurt the bank too much, while For Love and Lemons always has some amazing feminine pieces that you won’t see anywhere else. Check out Ashley’s Instagram for some more inspo!
Baggy Athleisure
Always a campus trend, now it’s acceptable to be seen in sweatpants out at Pots. This winter trend is super comfy and easily pulled off by throwing on a pair of baggy sweatpants or an oversized puffer jacket. Bring out your inner New Yorker by pairing pieces with a chunky shoe to anchor your look (Doc Martens or Nike Air Force 1s are a must) and fun sunglasses to complete the ultimate bad bitch vibe. Hailey Bieber (*cough* still not over it *cough*) is always an icon in this department, but check out Danielle and Kim’s Instagrams for some major inspiration. Though you can find sweatpants anywhere, some cool ones can be found here, and paired with a basic crop will make all the girls in the bathroom ask you where you got your pants.
Eye-catching Graphics & Unexpected Pairings
Graphic-tees are a closet staple, but let’s take it up a notch. Bold prints are in, and we are here for it. This can be seen threaded throughout all other winter and spring trends, but it deserves its own spotlight. By pairing different textures—like a mesh with cotton or silk with velvet—with busy graphics or neon colors together, you can achieve a one-of-a-kind look that no one else would have thought would work—but surprise, it does. Emily’s Instagram has a ton of unexpected looks, down to perfect combinations of accessories (who would have thought a regular belt with a chain belt could look that good?). Another good place to look for some inspiration for some amazing pairings would be Jenny’s Instagram and Tezza. For this trend, you don’t need a specific website, all clothing stores have something that will tie in, but Urban Outfitters is always a go to for cool pieces.
Retro
Trends tend to repeat themselves, but retro looks are taking over winter and spring. A few years ago, you couldn’t pay anyone to be seen in flare jeans, yet here we all are wanting a pair of corduroy Rolla’s the second the temperature dips below 70. The housewife style of the 50s, the boho chic from the 60s and 70s, the 80s accessories, plus the simplicity of the 90s—we are here for it all. For some A-plus throw-back looks, check out Emma for 90s style, Anne for fun vintage looks, and Camila for classic vintage looks. Brands that rock the effortless vintage style are Reformation (for those 50s and 60s vibes), Free People (for interesting 70s pieces), and Brandy Melville (for those go-to basic 90s vibes). Pop in barrettes to hold your bangs back next GNO, a scrunchie for class, or a ribbon ponytail holder for brunch and take your retro look to the next level. If you blend all these styles together to make it your own, we might have to put your Instagram in our next post.
Dad Vibes
Finally, we have reached the point where we have to address this “dad” trend that has slowly crept its way into the fashion world. Not sure if this first started as a meme on Twitter, but the dad look is here and happening. Who knew my dad was up to something by wearing New Balances? Chunky white sneakers, oversized button-downs, and light wash jeans are taking over the casual dress scene, and frankly, at this point, there’s nothing we can do to stop it. Boiled down, this trend is just basics with some oversized elements, all of which can easily be found on Brandy Melville or Urban Outfitters. Pair your favorite pair of straight leg denim with an old graphic tee and sneakers, and you’ll get your desired look—yes, it really is just that easy. If you wanna go crazy, wear an oversized button-down as a cardigan for some extra dimension. For some outfit inspo, check out Brandy Melville’s Instagram as well as Emma’s.
