How to Destress with Your Skincare
As the Fall semester comes to a close in the upcoming weeks, stress and anxiety comes right alongside it. In my opinion, one of the most beneficial stress busters is taking a break from extensive studying with a quick skincare routine. Whether it be a five-minute face mask or a brief aromatherapy session, these tips never fail to settle my nerves so I can refocus on the work at hand.
One thing to keep in mind during your stress-free spa day shopping is which scents can improve your mood. Lavender has calming properties and can improve emotional stress, so I suggest testing out a new moisturizer or lotion with this scent. Lemon or peppermint promotes concentration, which can give you a much-needed energy boost. It might be a good idea to invest in a facial or lip scrub with these scents – you can wash your face before your nightly study session for a quick pick me up! If you are fighting mental fatigue, try whipping up a homemade facemask using cinnamon as the base! Cinnamon can also battle mental fatigue and stimulate concentration and focus.
I swear by the jade and rose quartz facial rollers. Although their purpose is to depuff the face and promote blood circulation, I find that it helps work out any pent-up study stress and dull headaches. While studying, my facial muscles tend to tense up, and this is a great way to remind yourself to relax your face, as well as your mind.
Another effective relaxation method is taking a quick shower. Giving your mind a break is important, for it allows you to absorb recently studied material. In all honesty, nothing feels better than hot water running down your back. A great way to step up your shower game is to hang a fresh bundle of eucalyptus branches beside your showerhead. The plant will fill your bathroom with the sweet and relaxing fragrance of eucalyptus, and really allow you to take a couple of minutes for yourself. Plus, it’s pleasing to look at!
Don't think you can spare any time from your study session? There is no need to worry, for there is nothing a ten-minute sheet mask can't fix! This way, you avoid the hassle of applying and removing a regular clay mask and still participate in the calming sensation of skincare. I recommend purchasing a mask that utilizes the scents previously mentioned for the ultimate study experience.
With finals season quickly approaching, our mental health is of the utmost importance. While skincare is not the solution to all of our problems, it definitely can be used to combat stress and anxiety occasionally. Try lighting a candle, plugging in your aroma diffuser, brewing up some calming herbal tea. Test out these skincare options to help improve your final exam cram sessions this semester.
