How TikTok Has Been Nailing It

Why is everyone obsessed with nail designs these days? People have always been obsessed with getting a manicure, but recently, it feels like the entire millennial population is caught up in copying the trends of nail designs. It’s no surprise that the recent rise of TikTok (as a popular social media platform) is to thank for the new obsession. When a TikTok video of someone with a “trendy” nail design goes viral, it will only be a few hours before everyone copies that design. With TikTok being the fastest growing, as well as arguably the most enjoyable, form of social media right now, it makes total sense as to why the increased obsession with nail designs is associated with the growth of TikTok. The world has transitioned from using Pinterest for inspiration to now using TikTok (and I am not mad about it.)

We also have celebrities to thank for spending hundreds of dollars on their nail designs in order to post an Instagram story with them. We might not spend the same money on our own nails at the local nail salon, but we will use their Instagram story as inspiration. We can all admit that we have shown our nail technician a photo (or two) of what we want our nails to look like, and most of the time, we found them from celebrities or random TikTokers. 

Nails have never been “out of style,” but 2021 has brought about more of an obsession towards the designs, shape, and types of nail polish that people use.
