How Euphoria has Influenced Runway Beauty

Goodbye Neutrals, Helloooo Rhinestones. The Semi-Annual New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has come and gone but there seems to quite a change in the beauty department which in turn, has influenced many designers to change things up this time around. Looking back at previous NYFW Shows, almost all models that would strut down the runway embraced a very natural and sleek look. Top Designers like Tom Ford, Marc Jacobs, and Tommy Hilfiger, tend to keep the models in their natural state because most of the models have an exquisite facial structure to begin with. Starting September 6th, 2019, the “natural state” is no more and is it all thanks to a new HBO show based off of high school teenagers who struggle with staying in and out of rehab due to their excessive use of drugs. It may sound a little off but yes, this new show Euphoria has single handedly stolen the runway one rhinestone at a time.

Even if you have yet to see the new and very much talked about HBO show, it goes without saying that the very bold, shiny, and colorful makeup is meant as a statement for young women. Expressing your beauty, and better yet your personality, through makeup is a trend that has always been around and will continue to be. It is safe to say that the NYFW Designers were spot on with this trend and new that although it would spike controversy, there was a bigger meaning behind it.

Doniella Davy, who is the head of the makeup department told Refinery29 that “As a believer in expressive and colorful make up in general, it’s exciting to see these looks in full force on the runway.” In the photo below Doniella Davy is captured glamming up one of the main characters, Jules. Davy gives us more of Jules’ onscreen character and says that her “looks are works of art that are supposed to make you evaluate the way you frame masculinity and femininity.” With NYFW Designers taking this beauty trend head on, they too can influence men and women around the world to embrace their own looks as works of art.

Oscar De La Renta’s models during his Dominican Republic runway show, is photographed supporting a Euphoria beauty look with her color pop winged eye-liner. Graphic Eyeliner, Glitter, Neon Eyeshadow, and excessive Rhinestones along the eyelids are just a few of the trends that were started in the show and ended up on the runway. Again, we see another image of the star character Jules, who is styling the same bright colored eyeshadow that was placed on one of Oscar De La Renta’s Runway Models above.

While the new trends for beauty are already being discussed for NYFW 2020, I have a pretty good feeling that the more popular Euphoria becomes, so will this specific beauty trend. Forget Diamonds, Rhinestones and Neon are a girl’s best friend.

Strike Out,
