Hell Hath No Fury Like a Woman Scorned
There is a deep history to the “scorned woman.” A wronged woman is a woman who’s been betrayed by her partner. With the end of a relationship, there are two routes that a woman can take. There is the route where she “plays dirty” and lowers herself to her ex’s level, spreading lies about one another and fighting online in the comment section. Then, there is the second, more desired route, which is for her to come out on top.

In pop culture, we’re lucky enough to have examples of these wronged women who successfully came out on top with the end of their unhealthy relationships to their exes. One more well known example is Princess Diana. She married Prince Charles and had two sons with him. In her marriage to him, he lied, cheated, and degraded her over her weight, leading to her bulimia. She divorced him, exposing his true nature to the public. With this, she created the iconic “revenge dress.” She went on to become a style icon, winning people over with her kindness, and in doing so, finding a healthier, happier relationship.

A more recent example of a wronged woman coming out on top is Ariana Madix. She is known in the world of reality TV for her appearances on Vanderpump Rules. Throughout the show, viewers watched her relationship with Tom Sandoval unfold. After nine years together, he was exposed for cheating on her with a close friend. He tried gaslighting her, lying, and fake crying for the public’s sympathy. However, the internet took her side. She was offered brand deals, gained millions of followers on Instagram, and is now on Dancing with the Stars.

A current saga of the wronged woman is Sophie Turner. We’d all been warned of Joe Jonas from his relationship with Taylor Swift and her song “Mr. Perfectly Fine,” inspired by him. All was forgiven when Jonas and Turner embraced the song, reminding everyone of his current relationship with Turner. They were commonly considered “relationship goals,” being well known as an “it” couple. But shockingly, and suddenly, they divorced after just four years of marriage and one year after the birth of their second child. Quickly, rumors circulated, mostly focused on Turner, defaming her character both as a wife and as a mother. All the while, paparazzi pictures and pop culture news sites praised Jonas as a strong, single dad. Turner has remained quiet on the subject, while the internet defends her as the “Queen of the North,” a nod to her Game of Thrones character that famously came out on top after being controlled by vindictive men. Now, she’s seen arm and arm with Taylor Swift, still minding her business.
This record of these icons just goes to show don’t mess with a scorned woman, for you’ll only get burned.
