Fashion Bundles: Helping You Find Your Style?
Pinterest is a safe space for many, whether for clothes inspiration or vision boards; it’s your own curated little world. In the search for outfit ideas, people can make collages of what their dream closet might look like. These visions have continued coming to life and started initially gaining traction during the pandemic when creators showcased their thrift finds or assembled their custom clothing bundles. Creators offered users a way to attain specific fashion trends with a budget. Through a combination of a detailed form of clothing structure with images of style inspiration, and patience, they could essentially have a personal shopper to elevate users’ styles.
When it comes to piecing a fashion bundle together, inspiration given by the customer is essential. A Pinterest board, a mood board, and a fashion idol can all be valid references to turn to. However, before purchasing, you must decide the type of creator you want to buy from. Do you prefer thrifted or vintage items? Or do you just want items that are mass-produced at fast fashion stores? Both options exist, though vintage and thrifted finds tend to be pricier and more unique. For example, if you choose a seller who specializes in thrifted or vintage pieces, the prices of a bundle might start at $150-200 for an estimated minimum of three to four pieces. While some may find this expensive, vintage pieces are coveted and highly sought after, requiring the seller to put in significant work to find items that match your ideal aesthetic. To streamline the process, some sellers might ask buyers to specify pieces they absolutely do not want.
Magnetism is an online vintage store that offers curated Style Bundles that allow customers to explore and elevate their personal style. It specifically asks customers to include pieces they do not desire. Starting at $200 CAD, customers can choose a pricing tier and fill out a detailed form that includes their style inspiration, measurements, and wish list. From there, Magnetism sources and assembles vintage pieces tailored specifically to the client’s desired look. Each bundle typically takes 4–6 weeks to arrive, and the number of items varies depending on the budget and item type requested. It’s a thoughtful, personalized approach to fashion that emphasizes individuality through sustainable and unique pieces. Similarly, Celestial Vintage, created by Celeste Goyena, is a platform in which sustainability is evident in both her clothing line and her shopping bundles. Through TikTok and Instagram, Goyena promotes her brand by making full outfits in her bundles instead of solely highlighting individual pieces. On top of this, there are bundles featured for large-scale events such as Coachella or needed inspiration for upcoming trips.
Now the bugging question is, does this give you a way to curate your style, or does it limit your creativity with outfits? Sure, there is one aspect to consider when making a mood board of how you want your style to look, and there is another task of actually finding items that match this vision. It takes a lot of time and effort to figure out what works and what doesn’t. When you have someone else do it for you, give you a sneak peek, making sure you like it before they send it to you, and then you have about three new outfits and accessories to add to your closet, which is a way of “cheating” to some. Suppose another person you paid hadn’t curated these outfits for you, and you went out and actually shopped for them. In that case, you might have picked different pieces, different styles of outfits, different accessories, etc. This ease of accessibility takes away the fun of trying pieces together and liking how confident you feel in them. With fashion bundles, where is the trial and error? The endless search and destruction of your drawer to realize you don’t have a top to go with the outfit means you have no choice but to buy more clothes.
Your style is one of the first details people notice when you walk into a room. Would you rather craft the outfits yourself or let someone else tailor your image for you? There is no shame in either choice—it all comes down to whether you want to be your wardrobe designer or let someone else stitch the pieces together. Fashion is all about expression, so why not make sure your style is tailored to you?
