Dr. Martens Unveiled Their Keith Haring Collection

As we prepare for the coming months of cold weather, it might be a good time to invest in a new pair of boots. Lucky for you, Dr. Martens just released their latest collection featuring Keith Haring’s funky illustrations. If that name doesn’t sound familiar, I can almost guarantee that you are familiar with his iconic artwork and have even interacted with it at some point in your life.
Keith Haring was a prominent American artist in the 1980s pop culture scene. He is famous for his creative street art, use of bright colors, and pop art motifs. What began as graffiti in the New York subway grew into a full-blown pop art movement. He developed a distinguished artistic style involving simplistic figures and shapes. Some of his most famous pieces include Radiant Baby, Crack is Wack , and many genderless pop art figures. Haring’s work can be seen on anything as small as a key chain, t-shirts, and even large murals.
Along with his iconic illustrations, Haring was known for using his platform and abilities in the name of activism. Many of his pieces went beyond just artwork and actually carried important social and political messages. Haring’s passion for helping children in need led him to donate a considerable amount of his art to children’s charities. After being diagnosed with AIDS, he established the Keith Haring Foundation in 1989. His wish was for the foundation to “concentrate its giving in two areas: the support of organizations which enrich the lives of underprivileged children and the support of organizations which engage in education, prevention, and care with respect to AIDS and HIV infection.” Haring remained extremely passionate about AIDS education until he passed away on February 16th, 1990.
It is worth noting that even in 2021, thirty years after his death, Keith Haring’s legacy remains alive today. Haring once said, “My contribution to the world is my ability to draw. I will draw as much as I can for as many people as I can for as long as I can.” It is clear his passion left an enormous impact on the world, and this new collection displays it perfectly. The Dr. Martens x Keith Haring collection includes three pairs of shoes and a variety of creative looks.
The collaboration is offering the classic 1460 boot style, but with a fun, Haring inspired twist. The boots feature black gloss figures along with his colorful, pop art figures on the back.
The collection also offers two options in the 1461 shoe style, each featuring different iconic Haring illustrations. One pair includes the famous “winged angel” illustration outlined in white, while the other 1461 style features many “intertwined genderless people” in black outlines.
Pricing for the shoes range from $130 to $160 and are expected to fly off the shelves, so be sure to get yours while you still can! Haring’s work has touched the lives of many, and now you have the chance to wear it in a chic way. You honestly can’t go wrong with any of these uniquely designed styles!
