Community Through Artistry: Behind the Scenes
In a coterie of creativity, we’re even further inspired by the visionaries around us. We grow together by reaping the bounty of traded ideas.
BEHIND THE SCENES
“Something I knew going into the shoot was that I really wanted to have artists from our Gainesville community or artists from this part of Florida who sell their clothes and items in Gainesville to collaborate with Strike Magazine UF ... I just really love this shoot because it showcases everyone’s talent, especially the community’s, which is all so, so important.”
— ERIN HU, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
“Community Through Artistry is all about acknowledging the way we’re impacted by our surroundings as creators. The unique creative community that’s found in Gainesville is a huge part of who Strike is today and deserves to be highlighted in this issue. At our first content meeting this semester, we all agreed we had to do something to showcase some of the amazing artists in Gainesville. We asked around on staff and scoured Instagram to find who we wanted to work with. From there, it was all about figuring out how to best show the pieces and the work of our team.”
— ASHLEY RICKMAN, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE ASSISTANT
“My favorite aspect of the shoot was getting to know the artists we were highlighting. Jose from fucklastcall was amazing to work with and brought pieces that put a smile on all of our faces, while Sean from Frayed the Label taught us about his creative process at our first fitting with him. Liv, of course, is one of our favorite local designers as a part of the Strike family, and it was awesome to see her expand beyond Styling Director and actually be highlighted as a designer with her own clothes.”
— JACOB WALL, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE DIRECTOR
“What we did was we used a projector and kind of projected these really cool moving visuals onto people as they were modeling the clothes, and we had the models do these poses that fit the vibe of each different clothing line ... the photography and video for this shoot were different because it was in the studio, and it was quick-paced, fashion, editorial … we put more emphasis on the clothes rather than on a storyline, like in Vanguard or Common Ground.”
— SAMY ASFOOR, FLIM DIRECTOR, PHOTOGRAPHY ASSISTANT
“In Community Through Artistry, we really wanted the clothing to be the center of attention; that was the purpose of it all … Jacob and I tried to really show our audience like, hey, look how amazing these designers are! We do not need to add anything else on stage, into the photoshoot; we don’t need anything else but these pieces of clothing because they are amazing, they really are.”
— GABI DONATI, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE DIRECTOR
