Common Ground: Behind the Scene

Breaking relational barriers in a maze of differing journeys is a journey unmapped. When exploring where our paths intersect, we strive to find Common Ground.

BEHIND THE SCENES

“Common Ground is about all types of people from different backgrounds, ideas, motivations, and abilities, joining efforts to combine and create one single vision. Through our video, we were able to convey each person’s unique representation of diversity and their mission to unite together.”

— RYAN RIVAS, FILM DIRECTOR

“The overall styling inspiration was to do something really high fashion, glam and over the top, to make this shoot different from anything we had styled before. We put the models in stunning gowns, which contrasted with the shoot location being in the middle of a labyrinth, and this gave the shoot a really unique look and feel ... my favorite part of this shoot was the location. We shot at the labyrinth in Kanapaha Botanical Gardens in Gainesville, and it’s really a beautiful place. The location made the shoot in my opinion; it was perfect to showcase the theme of this shoot and visually portray the models on their journey to finding their center.”

— KARIS PERUSEK, STYLING DIRECTOR

“Strike is the metaphorical center of the maze, and as the models navigate it, they are getting closer to what brings them together. Because this issue is all about communicating who we are, content really wanted a shoot that would show our interconnectedness through Strike, despite anything that divides us ... what sets Common Ground apart is that it highlights the individual aspects of Strike; how each person is different and then becomes part of the collective to create this magazine.”

— NICOLE TORRES, CONTENT TEAM BLUE ASSISTANT

“The maze is really a visual representation of people being lost and leading their own way but always finding a center, community, or friend that can help them and motivate them to reach their goal. So, the center of the maze is what we would consider the common ground.”

— GABRIELA DONATI, CONTENT TEAM ORANGE DIRECTOR

“When people see the photos and read the articles from Common Ground, I want them to understand what fashion could be and what fashion currently is. I feel that the world of fashion inspires and touches so many, but often, it can also be isolating and classist; when people look at some fashion, they may feel trapped in a sort of box where they think they can’t reach a certain style or extravagance. I want them to know that we can all make our own mark on it, with our own styles, and we can all put our own twist on it.”

— JORDAN WITT, CONTENT TEAM BLUE DIRECTOR
