Brands You Should Know About: Boys Lie

It’s typical – boys lie, and someone is putting them in their place – fashionably speaking. Maybe you’ve seen some of your favorites sporting this mystery line of oversized sweats. From Gigi Hadid to Vanessa Hudgens, Boys Lie is keeping these ladies confident and comfy in their everyday wear, day in and day out.

Coincidentally, the two women behind this brand derive from the same hometown of Philadelphia, but never knew each other. Years went by for Tori Robinson and Leah O’ Malley living on the same street, going to different high schools, and running through different posies. Finally, the two came together through boys. Ironically, two breakups added up to one friendship for life. These now successful and creative business ladies clicked as they bonded through the unfortunate loss of love through both their boyfriends, who were best friends. Once these two met for the first time, they realized that something big could come from this heartache. Combining their creative and business backgrounds and skills, these two women came up with the brand, Boys Lie. Ultimately, Boys Lie is inspired by the way these two came together to lift each other up when a boy has put them down. To celebrate all of the women who do the same, and continue this bond between all women, the two created Boys Lie.

But how did a lowkey apparel brand full of overpriced leisure wear that gets restocked ever so often become so big in such a short time span?  There’s not a straight answer that agrees with the origin of the hype, but it’s safe to say that Gigi Hadid is the culprit of how Boys Lie rose to be a must have this past winter season. It all started this past October, post rumored relationship with ex Tyler Cameron from the Bachelorette. Hadid was seen cold stone in an interesting green sweat suit that read, “BOYS LIE, GOOD-BYE.”

Of course, this blew up just as much as this past fling, alluding to the breakup of Tyler and Gigi. People became obsessed with not only the trendy, oversized look of the sweat, but also Hadid. Whether she meant it or not, she was so confident and out in the open about her relationship by calling out men. Since then, Hadid has been seen sporting the brand multiple times, which has helped Boys Lie reach their target consumer of young, powerful women.

Against the odds of their prices, people all over have managed to get their hands on Boys Lie. This has proven successful by the way Robinson and O’ Malley repost other young women on the Boys Lie Instagram account all adorning Boys Lie apparel ranging from t-shirts, to sweats, and beanies. By also reposting women wearing the brand, these creators are doing what they originally intended – binding women in strength and love for one another. This is also so smart and savvy, adding to the experience of wearing the brand for the consumer. Madison Beer is also another star, more notable for being expressive of her break-ups or current flings. She has been seen more recently on the street in Boys Lie as well.

Although winter season may be coming to an end, maybe you’ll reconsider the hefty price tag and warmer weather. Vanessa Hudgens as recent as a couple weeks ago even posted a picture of herself in the newest Boys Lie collection before she was headed on a date with a girlfriend.

This also shows that sweat suits and athleisure wear are not a dying trend, as well as just some street style moment. This style of apparel is making it’s way into other genres of people’s lives other than running errands or working out - but in contrast, going out.

Since launching their own website and connecting with small boutiques across the country to sell their goods, old and new Boys Lie has been available for sale on big name retailer websites that sell out in seconds: Urban Outfitters and Revolve. And if you’re not able to get your hands on a set from any of these retailers, the women also provide pre-order options when they announce a collection coming soon. Otherwise, Boys Lie is good-bye until their next drop.
