Blumarine Brings Studs, Fire, and Celestial To Milan Fashion Week
Blumarine made one hell of a fiery entrance this afternoon as they set out to showcase their Fall/Winter 23 collection. Expectations were high (on my part), and if I’m being truthful, expectations were met (praise be). Before I give our readers the inside scoop, let’s give a round of applause to Creative Director Nicolas Brognano. Blumarine continues to deliver, and for that, we are eternally grateful.
In times where Y2K comebacks can be overdone and quite honestly distasteful, Blumarine keeps finding ways to reinvent itself. If I could describe today’s F/W 23 collection in three words, it would be studded, ruffles, and metallic. All the faves packed into one show; what a treat for a casual Thursday afternoon.
The show started with none other than the letter ‘B’ for Blumarine being set on fire, a great way to set the tone for the rest of the show. Last season was all water, and right off the bat, the ‘B’ on fire changed gears into absolute fire energy for this new collection. Blumarine not only has my heart because of their clothes, but as an astro-girlie, this whole concept was perfect.
As the ‘B’ lit up, the light was brought to the center stage, and you could see the whole vibe that was put out. There were rocks, grass, and what looked like moss spread out all over the place. It was like we had stepped foot into Narnia.
The first model struts down the walkway, and you see her wearing an all-metallic catsuit that covers her entire body. Very ‘Zenon Girl Of The 21st Century’. Following along, there were mini skirts with shearling fur on the edges paired with a chain-draped style tank top and knee-high shearling-covered boots. Absolute jaw drop. It was giving ‘Viking Chic’ in the best way possible. If I were to ever participate in Viking-like activities, this outfit better be within my nearest reach.
If you’re reading this and you used to be a Limited-Too fanatic, then look no further because the BAGS in this collection…need to be talked about. Y2K-inspired in the best way possible and detailed with studs in such a tasteful way, I kind of eliminated studs from my memory back in 2014. Not sorry about it, but Blumarine can do no wrong in my eyes. A few more accessories to mention that have been all over the internet as of late is the rose choker necklace; it was styled with a halter-style dress covered in ruffles all the way down, carrying a feathered tail. Interesting to see a trend so prevalent on the internet translate to the runway. Studded wrist bracers, black belts, and studded chokers were also a part of the show, following the fairy-goth theme accordingly.
The show moved along with a variety of different pieces of clothing like oversized blazers with, you guessed it, studs. Oversized blazers keep sleuthing their way into every show it seems, reminding us that we are not escaping the corporate chic trend anytime soon. Another trend that continues to make an appearance is the trend that keeps on giving, sheer. Hopefully, you’re not tired of her because it seems like we’re going to be seeing LOTS of her for the next foreseeable future. The silver and gold glittery dresses were paired with a cross-body bag and an elegantly draped neckline. Honestly, I’m all for it. Once you go sheer, you never go back.
As the show came to a close, the flames from the ‘B’ dimmed out, and the models disappeared. The ‘B’ lit back up for one last hurrah, and the models strutted their way back onto the runway to give one last look. This show gave me life, it revived me, and I want nothing more than to go to the forest with all the pieces and wear them while I live my fairy-gothcore fantasy. Blumarine lets us know that they are here to slay and stay.
