Anti-Love Day Playlist

Some look forward to the heart-filled haze of February 14. Others despise the bank account crippling holiday. I, for one, stan Valentine’s Day. But I also religiously listen to anti-love music. Whether you are single or in a long-distance relationship, this playlist will help you dive deeper into your feelings — from going through the initial heartbreak to finally moving on (and everything in between).

Shock

What just happened? Right after “The Talk.” You have an idea about what happened but can’t conceive the emotional aftershocks.

While you feel alone right now, these songs make you reflect on your experiences and feel comforted. You are not the only one struggling with these emotions.

Songs:

  • “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All)” - Omar Apollo

  • “Boy X” - Tate McRae

  • “Falling” - Harry Styles

Denial

There’s no way this is happening to me! You're constantly waiting for their name to pop up on your phone, reminiscing about the good times. You think you see them everywhere — only to realize that it wasn't them…

Denial is a normal human reaction to an overwhelming emotional event. It gives us time and space to gather our strength for something we must face at once.

Songs:

  • “Hate to be Lame” - Lizzy McAlpine & FINNEAS

  • “Where Do We Go Now?” - Gracie Abrams

  • “Running Away” - Genevieve Stokes

  • “Memory Lane” - Haley Joelle

Madness

How could you do this to me? While we couldn’t show our anger before, this is where we can unleash it. You feel the betrayal and realize all the time you wasted. Once we can no longer deny what happened, reality catches up with us. And now, we’re mad, livid even.

SZA's well-known lyrics "I might kill my ex, not the best idea. His new girlfriend’s next," spark feelings you didn’t even know you had. You start to resonate with the words and implement yourself into those specific situations. Especially the sped up version of RAYE’s “Escapism,” says it all. You’re planning your revenge, the attitude is coming out, and you’re blasting this song. “Just a heart broke bitch, high heels, six inch, in the back of the nightclub, sippin' champagne..” It makes you feel confident and unstoppable. It’s a great pre-game for what will happen tonight.

Songs:

  • “Sting” - FLETCHER

  • “Too Hot to Cry” - Nessa Barrett

  • “Escapism (Sped Up Version)” - RAYE

  • “Kill Bill” - SZA

Depression (aka The Emotional Rollercoaster)

What if? If only… This phase is characterized by intense emotional pain, self-doubt, guilt, deep desperation and overwhelming loneliness.

You’re doing great. You’re finding out who you are without your partner. You are on the road to recovery. These songs will help you understand and put words to what you feel. Like d4vd said, “It feels like you don't care, enlighten me, my dear.” These particular lyrics might dig up memories that remind you how you got to this point.

Rightfully or not, you blame yourself for the relationship ending.

Songs:

  • “Favorite Crime” - Olivia Rodgrigo

  • “Romantic Homicide” - d4vd

  • “How Many Things” - Sabrina Carpenter

  • “Good Enough” - Maisie Peters

Acceptance

You finally realize losing them was only for the better. You are that b****. Sometimes you have to let things go to make room for better things to come into your life.

Take your time to rebuild and heal yourself. Like Harry Styles once said, “I'm not worried about where you are, or who you will go home to. I'm just thinkin' about you.”

Songs:

  • “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” - Taylor Swift

  • “Little Freak” - Harry Styles

  • “Static” - Steve Lacy

Moving on

You’ve made it. You’re finally vibing and living your life like Kourtney Kardashian. You acknowledged being thankful for the experiences: The good, the bad and the ugly.

You've stopped being a “partner,” and you've begun to be yourself.

Songs:

  • “Flowers” - Miley Cyrus

  • “Hard Feelings/Loveless” - Lorde

  • “Miss You (Sped Up Version)” - Oliver Tree

  • “Serial Heartbreaker” - FLETCHER

No matter what your relationship status is, or if you have plans for Valentine’s Day, this playlist can aid you in emotional processing any day of the year.

Note to self: You are doing the best you can, and your feelings are valid. Slow progress is still progress. Whether you see that this February or years down the road, you’ll realize that the pain was temporary. And, on the off chance that the aches creep back: Rinse, repeat and hit play...

Strike Out,
