Acne Studios SS25: Putting the Plaid into Spring

Put away your flannels, plaids, and trenchcoats because, according to Acne Studios, that’s what we’ll be wearing this spring/summer 2025.

The show started off on a rainy day in Paris, with guests arriving with umbrellas, leather jackets, and boots in classic fall fashion. The runway featured sculptures, side tables, paintings, and even artwork on the couches, chairs, and benches guests were watching from.

The collection featured mostly muted and neutral tones—beiges, greys, blues, and even a hunter green. There were lots of what looked to be sweaters or cardigans tied around the waist or shoulders. Drop waists are seen making a comeback on dresses and skirts, and going commando under blazers is all the rave.

While none of this felt very spring, nothing felt more fall than the collection of plaid and flannel featured across the looks. Patterns coming in green, white, brown, red, and black plaid seemed to pay homage to the current season rather than the upcoming one. Combined with the muted tones and heavy fabrics like denim, leather, and knits, it makes us wonder whatever happened to the playfulness and airy nature of spring/summer collections.

Accessories like boots and gloves were used, playing even more into the anti-spring aesthetics. Many shoes featured an open toe, a playful and welcomed change. Oversized heels resembling those of Minnie Mouse or Daisy Duck were seen on the runway, adding an immediate draw of attention to models' feet.

Possibly the best of this collection was the few featured crocheted pieces. The bright colors and playful cut of the crocheted skirts and dresses gave the collection the spring vibe it needed. The short, almost ballerina-esque skirts and cropped shirts made it feel more cohesive to the spring/summer season.

Like other collections showcased this week, this one was lackluster. A spring collection filled with neutrals and plaids is certainly a jarring sight.

Strike out,
