A Timeline of Framing Faces

Eyebrows are such a small thing to consider when it comes to appearances and the sculpting of a face. However, they play a big role when looking at your face shape, proportion, and style.

If you’re looking for brow inspiration, here list of brow trends that have made an appearance recently and in the past:

The skinny brow:

The skinny brow has made a recent resurgence in popularity over the past year thanks to Pamela Anderson and her iconic 90's brows and Doja Cat, who’s made the move to shaving off her brows to drawing them thin, coinciding with her daily style.

The laminated, soap brow:

This gives brows a fuller, polished look that is popular with the trend of the “clean girl.” This aesthetic entails effortless glowy skin, sleek hair/ponytail, blushed cheeks. To top off this “just rolled out of bed” image are these soap brows that add to the minimal makeup, fresh face look.

The bleached brow:

The 90’s are back with the bleached brow trend! This look has made multiple resurgences since the trend first took off and in 2022, it was quite popular among influencers and celebrities. These light-colored brows create an extra edge to grunge clothing styles and music that have become increasingly popular these past few years.

Bejeweled brow:

If you are looking for a fun and unique accessory, brow jewels might be just what you need! Throughout the late 2010’s, bejeweled brows became another accessory, in a sense . These brows paired with bright eyeshadow, eyeliner art, or sparkly lip gloss make the perfect statement look. Recently, these rhinestone lined brows grew in popularity with the viewership of Euphoria and festival makeup.

The faded brow:

During the mid-2000’s, this trend became insanely popular among the beauty gurus on Youtube, as well as with makeup artists used by the Kardashians and Jenners. To achieve this brow look all you have to do is lightly fade or pencil them at the front and then gradually make them darker and edged at the end. This brow was paired perfectly with the dark appearance of the era’s most popular eyeshadow look, the smokey eye.

The thick, bold brow:

At the peak of the bold brow era, this look was most commonly seen on upcoming celebrities, like Victoria Secret model Cara Delevingne and actress Lily Collins. This brow look complemented facial features like arched cheekbones and defined jawlines.

Thin, arched brow:

The early 2000’s were marked by low-rise jeans and thin eyebrows, but with the resurgence of Y2K beauty and fashion trends, thin eyebrows are making a return! These iconic brows were over-waxed and sometimes drawn on with a brow pencil. During the Y2K era, these brows were seen on pop music artists, including Christina Aguilera, Victoria Beckham, and Gwen Stefani. Today, models, like Bella Hadid, are joining the thin, arched brow club.

Bushy, un-kept/untweezed brows:

In the 1980’s, the bigger the brow the better they were! This look went perfectly with the punk clothing style that was popular at the time and was seen worn by music icon Madonna.

As you can see, brow looks are constantly changing in order to fit the style and trends of the moment. Don’t be worried about falling behind on defining your eyebrow because clearly eyebrow trends are always making a comeback.
