A Guide to jewelry

So, the weather is heating up and we’re wearing less clothing and more jewelry. Personally, I am in a constant battle with myself about jewelry. Should I wear gold or silver? Should I layer or keep it simple? Should I invest or buy cheap shit? Well, let’s get into it.

If you have warmer undertones to your skin or have a darker skin complexion, gold jewelry is for you. The yellowness of the gold blends into your skin giving you an elegant, gentle glow. While if you have cooler undertones to your skin or a lighter complexion, silver is the way to go. The coolness of silver compliments the coolness in your skin making the jewelry almost blend into your look. You can test your undertones by looking at your veins, if they are blueish purple you have cooler undertones, and if they are green or greenish-blue you have warmer undertones.

Gold or silver can also depend on your outfit. If you are wearing colors like red, orange, yellow, or even pink, gold might be the way to go. As opposed to colors like blue, purple, or gray you might opt for silver. If you’re feeling funky mixing metals can also be a fun and cool way to incorporate color and texture into your outfits.

Layering jewelry can make an outfit. If you have statement necklaces or earrings, layering simpler pieces around them can make them pop while also tying everything together in your look. Opting for simple jewelry can make you look put together and clean, this is why a simple pair of gold chunky hoops are the rage these days. Layered looks give off a more insta baddie, y2k persona while simple pieces give off green juice on the beach at 5 am before hot yoga.

As for where to get jewelry, there are a million places with prices ranging from six to six hundred dollars. Let me break some down for you!

If you’re looking for pieces more in the under twenty dollars range you might sacrifice quality but cute, trendy pieces can be everywhere like Urban Outfitters, H&M, and Aerie. But if you’re a sustainable girl like me, I recommend thrifting or buying your jewelry from local shops; this way your pieces are more unique and you are supporting a cause.

If you are willing to spend a little more but still want to be under a hundred dollars, I recommend places such as Anthropologie for their gold plated, high-quality jewelry and Etsy for their hand-made, real metal jewelry. Etsy also has thousands of sellers so you will definitely find something unique there.

A real, high-quality piece of jewelry is not only gorgeous but it is an investment. It can be handed down to your kids and then your grandkids and so on and so forth. The best place to get real gold, silver, or diamonds is a jeweler. A jeweler can work with you on creating custom pieces or you can buy pieces they already have. The RealReal also has designer jewelry second hand which is less expensive and still just as luxurious.
