Beauty Dos and Don’ts for Valentine’s Day

Whether you’re anticipating a romantic date with your significant other, spending time with your girls, or remaining in solitude to show some self-love, Valentine’s Day isn't a reason to neglect your makeup and hair. I am sure that the first thing that came to mind was a bodycon dress moment paired with an iconic statement red lipstick. It is the ultimate blueprint of what society has deemed the ideal V-Day look would look like. A good start, but I say otherwise; 2022 calls for something new. If you are looking for some elevated hair and makeup ideas to stand out this Valentine’s Day, you've come to the right place.

1. The Natural Barbie Look

Inspired by Allure’s old Hollywood glam, pink lipstick and a voluminous blowout is the perfect way to express your inner glam this Valentine’s Day. To achieve this Lili Reinhart look, opt for a pink lipstick with cooler undertones to enhance your pearly whites. Don’t be afraid to apply a thicker layer of eyeshadow and include pigment for a seamless eye look.

2. The Royal Purple Look

Valentine’s Day does not have to be all red and pink. In fact, I have noticed Tik Tok’s growing obsession for lilac blush on a glow makeup look. If you are bold and up to trying something new, mix drops of primer with your foundation to achieve a natural-looking foundation glow and strike your cheekbones with bits of lilac blush. Don’t forget to top it off with your favorite facial mist!

3. The Smoked Out Liner Look

As seen on stunning Brigitte Bardot, this 60s makeup look has seen a comeback in 2021. Bardot’s signature smoked-out cat eye and neutral makeup with a red lip will bring out your inner drama queen this Valentine’s Day. We’ve seen Gigi Hadid recreate Bardot’s trademark look with black eyeliner to complement the original smokey shadow. To achieve this look, use a dark eyeshadow, eyeliner, or both, to draw a line following your eyelid and smudge it out. Add more texture by tracing your lower water lines as well.

4. Glitter Me Out

With the recent release of Euphoria's second season, the obsession with glitter is back! This year’s Valentine’s Day calls for crimson glitter eye makeup complemented with a sharp, dramatic eyeliner.

5. Special: Apply Your Fragrance the Right Way!

Whether you own a signature scent or are down to experiment with a new fragrance this Valentine’s Day, there are a few things to keep in mind. One: eau de toilette, eau de parfum, and perfume are not the same thing. Even though all three can smell very similar, an eau de parfum has the highest concentration of oils, followed by perfume and eau de toilette. To secure a lasting smell while avoiding a pungent odor, Allure recommends resisting “more than two drops of perfume, three sprays of eau de parfum, and four hits of eau de toilette”. While it is suggested to reach for your pulse points, such as your wrists, inner elbows, temples, neck hollow, and behind the ears, I personally found my fragrance to last the longest when applied to my hair.
