1027: A Peek into Mucho Info’s Latest Song Release –
The fear of striking out tends to keep people from playing the game … and sometimes this can happen with music. Listeners tend to stray away from sounds and languages foreign to their own ears, but magic can happen when we open up to experiences outside of ourselves.
Enter Mucho Info – the bilingual Latin group that has been turning heads since 2018. Since their debut six years ago, the quintet continues to lure audience members in with their catchy melodies and compelling lyrics. More recently, their latest single, “1027”, not only reflects their growth as a collective, but also captivates a larger audience – even those who are unfamiliar with the language.
Yona Paz, Maui Malera, DZRT, Hex Maximo and Ed G form the talented lineup behind the sound. Yona and Maui are the group's primary singers and songwriters. Yona brings the rapping flair and Maui shines as the lead vocalist. DZRT, Hex and Ed G contribute as producers, with Hex also taking on the role of lead guitarist. While Ed G delivers more of a Latin side during production, DZRT initially brought the hip-hop and R&B sides to the team and then progressed more into the Urban Latin genre and Afrobeats. Although each member has a primary role, they are versatile enough to adapt and contribute to the next hit single.
“1027” is a single that perfectly discusses what it’s like to “play the game” in the dating world. Essentially, “1027” represents a hotel room number and the song takes listeners on a journey through “sneaky link” culture. “The deeper storyline, if you watch the video for “1027”, shows the game is actually being played on us as we thought we were playing the game,” said DZRT. “Coming towards the end of the video, you’ll see the surprise where we come back on top.”
“The vibe and the melody of the song and the beat really just kind of gave us this feeling of promiscuity and sensual vibes,” said Maui Malera. “We were just thinking about those players out there that be playing while getting played at the same time and I think we’ve all been there. It’s kind of a relatable story that all of us have kind of had in the past whether in college or high school... or yesterday.”
What started as sorting through samples, seeking a beat, and then later adding melodies and plugging in lyrics, the creation of the track came to a pause for about two to three weeks. This song could have remained a draft, postponing its release, but the group wasn’t ready to give up quite yet.
After weeks of leaving the song idle, the group’s persistence prevailed as they bounced efforts off of each other. Maui crafted the song’s intro as the group built upon it, adding lyrics to a mumble track. Eventually, “1027” came to life.
This song not only plays into a timely aspect, but it can also be interpreted in the evolution realm as well.
DZRT, an African American member of the Latin group, unleashed his Spanish alter ego “De Zeta.” Despite Spanish not being his native language, audiences can see his evolution expel as he sounds very natural in his performance.
Time also plays a significant role in the song and the group’s general outlook. “Pasamos pa’l cuarto, tenemos hasta las siete.”
“That basically is saying we’ll go to the hotel room, we only have until 7:00 pm,” Maui Malera translates. “So you’re really there for only maybe an hour, two hours, you’ve got that limited time window to really take advantage of the moment and enjoy it. The whole song is about a limited amount of time to leverage.”
As the group reflects on their journey, they also offer advice to aspiring musicians.
“As much as we want to fight it as human beings, there’s no such thing as the right time,” said DZRT. “If time is of the essence, take the chance while the time is actually here in general.”
“Every business starts small and every business starts as a trial run,” Maui explained. The only way to really uncover what’s good and what’s not, what works and what doesn’t is by getting started and putting it out there.”
Mucho Info can be streamed on Apple Music, Spotify and YouTube. Now that “1027” is complete, fans can expect a new song from Mucho every month as well as updates on members in the group building on their solo careers. The quintet is also aiming to secure their first show in Orlando.
