Why You Should Invest in Chunky Boots This Winter

Growing up as a ballerina, my pointe shoes were one of the only things that allowed me to feel tall. Being five four, there’s not many ways I get to experience the subconsciously inevitable power people who are taller than most experience. While I’ve always admired tall women, I’ve also grown to become quite content with my height as well. Instead of focusing on an aspect of myself I can’t change, I’ve learned to love that part about myself. However, that doesn’t mean I still don’t like feeling taller than I am once in a while. And since I stopped dancing in college, I had only one other means of feeling that way, heels.

Heels have long been an essential piece of fashion for women since the 17th century. Why? Because there’s something about them that makes you feel empowered. That being said, the higher the heel, the more of that you feel. Chunky heels have been one of my favorite shoe styles for years now because of the extra platform it gives one when wearing it.

Chunky boots were previously known as a staple of punk uniform, while in recent years they have gained traction. The non-conventional look of chunky styled shoes is what is so drawing about them. It’s taking a regular boot and adding some spice. And you can still wear them on a regular walk around the park and also make them a fashion statement. Every person, no matter their height, should be stomping around in these.

According to Independent, since chunky boots first came up in the scene around the late 1940s, the boots have been adopted by a number of sub-cultures, from the skinheads in the 70s, punks in the 80s, and the grunge movement of the 90s. We are now also seeing it incorporated into our trends with celebrities like Bella Hadid, Dua Lipa, and Kendall Jenner.

And chunky shoes are simply cooler. They just are. You can wear them with a casual outfit to incorporate some edge or with a grungier style of jeans or miniskirts as well. Instead of investing in the same style of boots you get every winter, I suggest opting out for an adventurous new chunky boot style instead.
