Why Everyone’s Applying Foundation With Their Hands Now

On TikTok, beauty gurus, and makeup artists are a dime a dozen. However, Meredith Duxbury has quite literally consumed my feed with her out-of-the-box makeup routine, showing girls how to make the most out of their makeup products. Instead of delicately applying her foundation with a beauty blender, Duxbury smears it with her hands, rubbing it in and applying it to her face. As unconventional as it may seem, girls on the internet have taken it upon themselves to try and recreate her flawless looks. Duxbury says goodbye to the “clean girl" aesthetic and the no-makeup makeup look and instead re-introduces a full face of glam; here’s exactly how she does it.
Step One: Foundation
Duxbury adds six pumps of the Huda Beauty #FauxFilter Luminous Matte Foundation to the top of her hand and mixes in two pumps of Kosas Revealer Skin-Improving Foundation with SPF 25. With the back of a brush, she smears the mixture on her face and then begins rubbing it in with her fingers. Duxbury has shared that she began using her hands to blend her makeup as a broke college student. Wanting to save her foundation as much as possible and fearing that a beauty blender would soak up all her product, she started to rub it in with her hands.

Step Two: Concealer and Powder
After blending out her foundation, Duxbury applies the E.L.F. Cosmetics 16HR Camo Concealer to conceal blemishes and highlight certain areas. She draws triangles under her eyes, on her forehead, and in the areas between and above the eyebrows. Then, she blends it all out with a mixture of her hands and a sponge. Duxbury then applies the Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder with a brush all over her face.
Step Three: Bronzer, Blush, and Highlighter
Duxbury contours by applying the Dior Backstage Face & Body Powder-No-Powder onto the high points of her cheekbones to give herself a natural facelift. She then applies the powder down her jaw and upwards toward her hairline. At this point, she removes her headband. For blush, she uses the Making You Blush Sculpting Powder from her collaborative collection with Morphe, applying it on the high points of the cheekbones. For highlighter, Duxbury applies a blend of three shades from the Dior Backstage Face Palette, adding it on top of her blush and dragging it to her temples.

Step Four: Brows, Eyeshadow, Mascara
To fill in her brows, Duxbury mixes both shades included in the Urban Decay Double Down Brow and applies it with a brush starting at the top of the brow and then following along the natural shape. To achieve a spring look, Duxbury uses the Morphe 18VA Va-Va Bloom Artistry Palette, blending together various shades of pink. She then applies the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara on both her top and bottom lashes.
Step Five: False Lashes and Lipstick
Duxbury applies the Kiss Lash Couture Naked Drama with the help of tweezers, scissors, and DUO Striplash Adhesive. After cutting one-and-a-half inches off the end of the lash, she applies the glue to the band. While the lashes dry, Duxbury uses the Patrick Ta Monochrome Moment Precision Lip Crayon and overlines her lips. The look is nearly complete with the Gucci Rouge a Levres Matte Lipstick and the Tarte Maracuja Juicy Lip Plump. After her lips are done, the lashes are ready to apply to finish the look off!
