When Fashion Meets Soccer: Analyzing the Most Fashionable Soccer Jerseys to Date

Whenever people watch sports, it is safe to say fashion is not their primary concern, and why would it be? If a team you support is playing, winning should be the only thing on your mind, right? Wrong. Don’t get me wrong, I want nothing more than for the team I support to win every game they play, but being able to represent your team is arguably just as important as winning. Why support a team whose jerseys are repulsive or bland? Moreover, why would any athlete want to play for a team whose jerseys are not up to par? As former FSU football player Deion Sanders explained in his mantra, “If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you play good. If you play good, they pay good.” Soccer teams have recently attempted to bridge the gap between sport and fashion. Today, we will be analyzing the clubs that have done it best.

First on this list is ACF Fiorentina’s 2023/2024 Kombat Pro away jersey. The producer of this jersey is none other than the clothing company Kappa. This jersey is as sleek as they come. The floral design blossoming across an otherwise blank canvas demonstrates the beauty of simplicity. You could wear this jersey with shorts, jeans, or slacks, and no one would question it. If you are a fair-weather fan looking for a fashionable club to begin supporting, look no further than ACF Fiorentina.

Next on this list is the 2022-2023 S.C. Corinthians 3rd jersey. This is a Nike-produced jersey that doesn’t even look like a jersey. The off-white, beige color creates a vivid contrast with its black lettering. This jersey is the definition of versatile. You can wear it at any time in any place. The Corinthians may not be the best or most notable team, but their jerseys inspire a sense of pride in supporting the team.

This Adidas-produced 2022-2023 jersey does not belong to a club but rather a national team. The design of Mexico’s away jersey is not only appealing to the eye but also connected to Mexican culture. The design is tied to the Mesoamerican god Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli. This additional layer of meaning should only further one’s urge to purchase this jersey, as it is tied to Mexican history that every athlete and fan should be proud to showcase. Who wouldn’t want to wear a jersey that incorporates supernatural beliefs of the past into its design?

Sometimes simplicity is best. The Chelsea 2023 home kit has no sponsors, a rarity for club soccer teams. The lack of a sponsor is why this jersey works so well. Without a sponsor, the gold accents on the club emblem jump off the jersey.

The last jersey on this list is for the people who love vintage gear. France’s 1998 jersey is a gem, and it puts the newer productions to shame. The collared jersey is a lost art form only seen with the classics. If vintage style is what you are going for, look no further than this kit. It comes in blue, as seen above, and white.

Don’t overthink it when it comes to purchasing a soccer jersey. You can select a team you have emotional ties to or go based on what looks good. The first jersey you purchase does not have to be your last, so always keep an eye out for new kit releases!
