What does beauty mean to you?
Perhaps what beauty means to you is balance; for some the alignment of two lines is enough to determine that one thing holds beauty. Another could argue the complete opposite. The dictionary definition of beauty is as follows: a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Something unique about beauty is that, because it is all based on perception, what you might find beautiful is probably completely different from what your neighbor down the street finds beautiful.
Have you ever heard the saying, “one man’s trash is another’s treasure?”On the other hand, there are some things that are relatively universally seen with beauty - Christmas lights, for example…or Angelina Jolie. Societally speaking, many people agree that some things are just deemed beautiful no matter what.
A lot of people have totally different ideas of what they find beautiful because of their interests. If you’re a little more into fashion, you might find yourself glancing into the windows of stores as you pass them, hoping to get a view of the possibilities inside. In the same vein, if you’re more appreciative of the beauty of architecture, your eye might be drawn to what is outside of the stores instead of what is found inside. You might be enraptured by the design of the building and its intricate form.
Another way to look at beauty is in nature! When you are taking in scenery, are you drawn to the colors in the sky? Are you taken aback by the curvature of trees? Or are you more focused on what’s placed inside of the scenery? Perhaps the chairs on a deck catch your eye or even the other people around you who are taking in the scenery. Are you more concerned with the beauty of the people around you? Is it the clothes they wear? Their skin in the sun? What do you define as beautiful? What kind of beauty do you care about? Next time you’re out for a drive, take note of what you find yourself noticing!
What catches your eye?
