What Are We Wearing To The Table?
It’s that time of the year. No, I’m not talking sleigh bells and mistletoes — don’t fret, you still have a month to get your holiday affairs in order. You have a much more pressing matter in the oven: Thanksgiving. If you’re anything like me, you took some time to recuperate from the mania that was this year’s Halloween and put Thanksgiving on the back burner. However, as November comes to an end, Turkey Day’s imminent arrival can no longer be ignored. Luckily for you, I’ve compiled a list to help you trot into dinner in style.
FOOD COMA FITS
Four hundred Thanksgivings in, simplicity still isn't dated. For those who value comfort and don’t feel a need to dress up for dinner this year, consider incorporating loungewear into your attire. This uncomplicated, everyday outfit can likely be put together with items you already have in your closet. Whether it be a tracksuit and sneakers or a satin cami with plush, loose pants, it’ll undoubtedly be cute and cozy. Perfect for a post-dinner nap on the couch, if you ask me.
COOK IT CASUAL
Casual is the ideal bridge between chilled out and dressed up. Maintaining copious amounts of comfort, sweater vests and cardigans (especially colorful and patterned ones) have rightfully made their way into most closets this year. These pieces are notable fashion chameleons, known for their versatility in pairings. Pants, skirts and dresses alike all look charming when matched with vests or cardigans. Shoe selections are also infinite, with loafers, boots, and sneakers all being fair game. No matter what kicks you choose to sport, you’ll be serving looks to go along with your plate all night.
AUTUMN HUES
Monochromatic outfits may be the hardest of the bunch to coordinate. That makes them that much more rewarding when successfully pulled off. Once you choose a color, you’ve completed the better part of your job. Although you can use whatever shade you desire to construct this outfit, rumor has it that red, brown, yellow and orange have been approved by Charlie Brown himself.
Also optional: include a patterned top in different hues of the same color to transform any outfit from dull to dashing. Striking accessories such as glasses, necklaces, or rings are more than welcome to contrast the uniformity and tie it all together. All the more to be thankful for.
MEALTIME MATCHES
Simple and sleek with a touch of sophistication, sound like what you’re looking for? Matching sets are just that! Lively and unique prints are often the running theme of matching sets, ensuring that all eyes will be on you as you grab your first, second, and third helping from the table — talk about a main character moment. Not only are sets eye-catching, but they also save you from the task of seamlessly coordinating a top and bottom. Their status as a low maintenance outfit allows for range when it comes to accessorizing. No matter if it's a blazer/bottom, a top/skirt, or a top/pant combo, it’ll undoubtedly be an effortless-yet-chic look once paired with the accessory of your choice. And to think, you didn’t even have to rely on a wishbone for this outfit idea.
GRACE IT BLACK
Thanksgiving only comes knocking once a year, so why not make it special? When I want to be dressed to the nines, my go-to outfit consists of a dress paired with a coat and boots. I personally tend to gravitate toward little black dresses, combining them with either oversized beige coats or black leather jackets. As legendary designer and creative Karl Lagerfeld once said, “one is never over-dressed or under-dressed with a little black dress." Besides, what’s autumn without some rom-com fashion inspiration?
TASTY TUXES
If there’s one truth that’s stayed constant in fashion, it’s that dressing sharp will never go out of style — and it’s easier than you think. Your everyday pair of slacks and T-shirts can be transformed into an outfit that your friends and relatives will rave about for Thanksgiving gatherings to come. Simply top the two with a blazer or unfastened button-down long sleeve top, and voila! Now, you’ve got a clean, tasteful look that’ll almost be as delicious as dinner.
Celebrating solo, with friends, or with family, you’ll be ever so stylish. Just remember that with any outfit, it’s important to accessorize; rings, purses, scarves, they’re all worthy hors-d'œuvres. The accessory that works with any festive fit, though? Confidence. Own your look and have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Strike Out,
