The World of Astrology Part III

Communication skills have always been important, if not the most to society, and yet there is this huge misconception surrounding the skill that there's a one-size-fits-all method of social interaction. Everybody has a unique and equally valid way they express themselves, which is associated with your sign in Mercury.

Similarly to last week when we covered love languages concerning the signs in Venus (read here), everybody has a different aptness to how they go about communicating. This pertains to your sign in Mercury, which can be found in your natal chart. If you still need to create one, you can do that here. If you've already done this, and want to find out your Mercury sign a bit more quickly and directly, you can calculate just your sign in Mercury here.

The Roman god Mercury is better known as his Greek alias, Hermes, and naturally- as we're talking about communication this week- is the god of tricksters, messengers, and travelers. What does this mean for your sign in Mercury though; how does this manifest within your life?

Just like love languages, you tend to surround yourself with people that you find convenient or easy to get along with. If you clash heads with somebody, chances are you probably aren't seeking them out for the company. While it's perfectly okay to pick and choose your friends (as you should), understanding Mercury and how it presents itself within individuals may help you overcome issues within the workplace, school, or even at home. Just because you don't click with somebody does not mean you can give up on trying to get along. Understanding the way others, as well as yourself, communicate could be the difference between having a civil discussion or heated dispute.

The best thing to come from Mercury is the art of expression, but in turn, the worst quality brought upon by the planet is oftentimes restlessness. Within your natal chart, Mercury is represented by ☿. It governs your rationalization, perception, reasoning, and speaking. Additionally, it shows your capacity to collect, sort, and communicate the knowledge you have gained through your life experiences. Occasionally, it can allude to success in public speaking (or a phobia thereof!), levels of sarcasm, deception, and argumentativeness. To see what your sign in Mercury means for you, click here.

While it is impossible to completely avoid people you might not get along with, you can take a moment to try and understand where the individual is coming from. Everybody is wired differently, and there is no shame in that. What is shameful, though, is allowing those differences to blockade productivity- or worse yet- your peace of mind! Just because somebody doesn't see eye-to-eye with you doesn't mean it's personal. Understanding your forms of expression will help you accommodate others, and will, in turn, reduce the number of conflicts you run into. Three cheers for smooth sailing!
