3 Date Ideas To Inspire your Valentines

Dalida found her love in Portofino, but not all of us have the luxury of spending our Valentines day basking in a dimly lit Italian beachside. So what do we do?

Close your eyes and maybe you can feel like you are finding your love in the present moment. Love of music, food, and the closeness of those you care for most. I have three budget-friendly adventures planned for people who want to make their February special. I will suggest which beverage to buy, music to fit the occasion, and activities to whisk you away from your everyday.

Adventure #1

Tonight you bask in the alternative light of places you see all the time. I encourage you to put on a stylish black outfit and turn down the lights in your home. Candles are a plus. Tonight a Pinot Grigio would be the perfect selection to accompany a homemade pasta dinner. (Or a take out pasta dinner if you prefer to avoid the clean up.) I want your nicest black dress or slacks and button up to be paired with socked feet.  You are elegant and comfortable in a romanticized version of your kitchen. And in the back my favorite part… the music.

“Summertime” Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong

“Glory Box” Portishead

“Talk Show Host” Radiohead

Adventure #2

What better combination than hot coffee and cold weather? I always want an excuse to drink coffee, and the half hour drive to Cloudland Canyon State Park is the perfect opportunity to sip on a hot latte or cappuccino. To set the mood here are some song suggestions:

“Rock City” Kings of Leon

“The Blonde” TV Girl

“You Are the Right One” Sports

“Riding the Blues” Snowy White, The White Flames

A winter hike is sure to clear your head and sting your lungs with fresh mountain air. There are incredible views and, of course, a tall waterfall to look forward to. The park has plenty of trails varying in difficulty and length, but for a shorter adventure the Cherokee Falls and Hemlock Falls trail is perfect.

Adventure #3

Testing out your artistic ability just requires a quick trip to a craft store and some confidence. Painting can be a great form of self expression but also leaves you with a physical reminder of your time. It doesn’t have to look perfect, just facilitate memories. For the beverage would bring a Cabernet Sauvignon with some dark chocolate on the side. With your wine and chocolate, you can choose anything in the world to recreate on your paper: your loved one, your pet, a landscape, etc.  To get you in the painting mood…

“Charmed” Σtella, Redinho

“Woods” Mac Miller

“unexplainable” Yot Club

Whether or not you have a romantic partner for Valentines this year, I hope that you are inspired to appreciate those in your life and the beautiful moments you can create with them. Love, listen, feel, enjoy. Life is fleeting so let’s be intentional.

Strike Out,
